Bones loves his Philadelphia Phillies.
There’s no question about it.

He did attend one Phillies game in his life,
right there at the stadium.

Mr. Joe from the settlement house
took him and Wawa.

The Phillies won,
which was a very good thing.

He and Wawa
shared a Dixie Cup* of ice cream.

It was a little sloppy,
ice cream all over the place.

Mr. Joe, he got to lick
the lid.

It was a day Bones
will always remember.

Bobby

*Dixie Cups were little cups of ice cream, they came with a little wooden spoon.  I don’t think they exist anymore.

Thanks Bill,

That's too bad.

I was lucky enough to have a grandfather who was a nut for baseball, and for me.  He took me to see a number of games.

Philly fans are of course world famous for their rudeness.  We do have fun.  I've always instructed my kids and young relatives to be polite--no booing.  I'll have to write a poem about that.

Bobby,
there was nothing like the taste of vanilla ice cream on that wooden spoon...what a pleasant memory your write conjures up...and nothing like baseball in an old league park to go with it (St. Louis for me)

Thanks Steavenr,

I have been to baseball games in St. Louis.  When I was growing up, my mother, and grandfather worked for the railroad, and I got to travel all over the United States for free.

St. Louis has always been one of my favorite cities.  I loved those black marble statues in front of the railroad station.  Are they still there?
