The women of the Outback
They’re brave of heart and will
Have veins that run with courage
And boots of hard to fill

They’re tougher than that tiger snake
That dingo on the prowl
They’ll run a K to spear some grub
And never throw the towel

They’ll treat ya sweet, then hold ya down
And ride ya like a steer
They drink the mud that fills the dams
And never carry fear

They’ll shear a sheep and throw the fleece
Before you’ve time to count
Then dump a stubby for the taste
And ride off on their mount

You’d sand ya fender with their hands
They’re rough and worn with age
And on the Lou, you guessed it right
They’ll use a local’s page

They dress up for their dances
But always take the lead
And when they blue amongst themselves
The bookies have a feed

They’re rough and tough these outback girls
But beauties treat compared
To outback blokes who run the roost
When all their truths are bared

They’re in a class, that of their own
Which city folk don’t know
Our dinky di’s, our real true blue
Who put our land on show

The nit and grit that love the land
The men and women brave
Who’d never change a single day
Until they’re in the grave

Wow.. I don't come round these parts much. I'm a teen girl although i'm almost not a teen.  It's great to see some aussie talent N ur poem is so true. I grew up around a farming life. My grandmother n grandfather still live a life on the land and at 68 n 79 i don't think they will ever leave. But thats what being australian's all about, well to me anyway and as for those Blunnies n and a good old fashioned beer i'll settle for that anyday.

An Amazing Write,
Cheers,
Jess

Hi Jess,  so great to get your reply, the outback would be a hard place to live, but I would have to say a hard place to leave as well when you are part of it. Lovely to get your comment and see you visit; my daughter has just turned 18 so not far off not being a teen as well, you have a wonderful day and take care, enjoy a beer, about to have one myself, bye for now, be nice to see you here again.

Dear Roniece, you city gals are great, no matter where we go there are different people and personalities, you are right, would not like to cross an outback girl, would be as tough as the land itself. Great to have you visit again my friend, enjoyed.

This is a powerful write about power women, who certainly didn't have the choice and had to act according to the demands of their world.
An impressive work, dear Rick.

Rick - hearty is the breed of the outback girls, reminds me some of the mountain girls up here in British Columbia. Always wanted to visit the land down under. Nice write...

I wish I could tell you that I understand everything you spoke of, but that would spoil all the fun of the read.

I loved the line,
"They’ll treat ya sweet, then hold ya down
And ride ya like a steer"

Damned fine women there!!

The answer is always NO, Until the question is asked.
