Oh hell...
Just take my damn money
if you need it that badly.
Buy another mansion,
a bigger car.
Send your kids to the best schools,
support another mistress.
None of our fearless leaders
will speak up.
They have elections to win,
backs to scratch, lobbyists to appease.
Award yourself and your family
with the very best healthcare
while I struggle
with this worthless, expensive HMO.
Take a huge pension
(I'm sure you will anyway)
After all, the fleecing of America
is hard work.
I just know it won't bother you
that I am the one
who worked all those years
and saved a little money
(nothing to you)
unless you multiply it
a few million times.
So the banks fail,
so we lose our 401K,
so what.
What the hell...
take a few days off
for the Jewish holidays
(whether you're Jewish or not)
The stock market
will still be falling
when you return...
no hurry.

If only we could put a fair number of
our elected officials into a stew pot...
that would be good enough for this poet!

Yo dear Ida,

Believe it or not, politicians do the best they can.  They are simply limited by normal human frailty, as is everyone else.

I've been involved in politics for many years.

I would just like to have some of their perks (I'll trade retirement packages) but they didn't come with my job. I have been involved in politics as well, not as an elected official, but as a very close observer and union activist and have seen what city and state officials get away with. I can only imagine what goes on in Washington.

I'm not sure where I read it or heard it. It was a while back.
One of our elected, poor boy, bought one suit, get this ONE SUIT. $20,000.......
Now I'm sure he can relate to someone who only earns a little over $ 5.oo an hour. Or the senior who is as poor as a church mouse and has to eat cat or dog food.Or the family that has to live out of their parked car and told by the police...."Move your car or we will tow it away".
Elected persons in the house, senate ect.Elect their own retirement plan. They do not pay one cent into it.So they can sit back and say this and that about Medicare, social security and other programs. I used to work for a bank and when I retired I thought I was set. Not rich but able to manage. Over night my retirement money was gone. That is true I checked it one day and over night it dropped and kept dropping until it was gone. The advice I got was when I called wondering should I move it. The answer was no it will come back it will be alright.
I guess what comes around  will go back around bite them in the back side one day.
WOW! Look at me ......VENTING.
I'm back to work and still I'm drowning.
Can't seem to get a toe hold.
VENTING, VENTING.

Hugs

Sorry to hear about your problems, Bonnie.
It seem that the people who tried to do it right are the ones that end up losing in the end. You know, work hard all your life, save money for retirement, take care of business etc. Well, that used to work. Now we're just paying for some fat cat's golden parachute. Is anything going to change? In my opinion, NO! There are no leaders,  and none on the horizon, as far as I'm concerned.
For the first time in my life, I will not be voting this time. I do not choose to suffer from buyers remorse. I had to laugh the other day when I heard that Obama and Biden both voted for the bridge to nowhere that Sarah Palin has taken so much flack
for. Not that I'm a Palin fan by any means.
I wrote this little poem about how I feel about the election this year.

CHOICE OR NO CHOICE?

The "old" Senator Mc Cain
and Calamity Jane
or the pride of Trinity Church
who some may trust.
A choice
or no choice?
That is the question.

Ida,

I'm sorry to hear that.  I live on a small pension, and social security.  As far as I know they are safe.

Republicans always create hard times.

Enjoyed the frankness of your poem and the responses...
I say stop talking about bailouts and start investigating and start putting people in jail, wherever the cards fall, whether they be CEO's or Politicians...James

I couldn't agree more, James about putting them in jail. I think the bail-out should be for the average people with our meager little savings and not to pay for some CEO'S golden parachute. I don't see why people who tried to do things right should suffer due to the greed of those in power.

you go girl
i am on your side ALL the way
i am sorry all of this is happening to you

i am just venting.i am tired, hurt and angry.
i am a deputy.i work 12 and 1/2 hours a shift
my customers don't like me. i am not complaining about the work i love it or the hours but i am just sick of the way things are.i recently resigned my job due to some moral issues at work but went back to work due to the fact there was nothing else out there and because i think God put me in that job and needs me there. so long story short i went back. at 51 i had my dream house -nothing special just a house but lost it at $2800. a month house payments and when it got there i said they could keep it since they wanted it worse than i did. i just think it is sad that i work hard eveyday to never be able to own a house of my own again and cry almost every night when i take my badge off for i see things much sadder than i live. i have seen people in fear and desperation. and i worry and i pray. i pray and i pray.

Ida my dear, it is just the same the world over, The politicians granting themselves
huge payments with work and side perks and enormous pensions, while so many other people live in dire straights. By the same token a lot of poor people bring hardship on themselves by overspending and wasting their money and many more buying huge houses
that they can't afford. It is certainly the same over here but maybe not quite as bad.
A very thought provoking poem.  Love to you dear Lady.

Lindsay

Helen, I feel so bad for you and totally understand where you are coming from. My granddaughter's husband is a deputy sheriff and she is a Human Resources manager. They both work full time and share the care of the baby and I watch her once in a while too.
They have to keep their noses to the grindstone to make their house payment. Thank God they don't have too much other debt at this time.
Law inforcement is a tough job but somebody has to do it. I will add my prayers to yours and hope that things work out for you.
                           Peace and love,
                                     Ida

Lindsay,
Some people are wasteful and over spend and others just try to be responsible and save a few dollars for a rainy day. Unfortunately we are all in the same boat as far as the economy is concerned.
