On The Day the Last Tree Fell

The forest people didn't like people
messing with their forest, their
peaceful green forest of trees.
It was guaranteed that they'd get
upset and frown whenever someone
cut one of their trees down.
They noticed that everytime the
town people came around they'd cut
some more of the forest down.
The town people didn't care if the
forest people got upset and frowned,
they only cared about building more town.
So day after day the forest gave up its
trees while the town turned into a City,
and on the day the last tree fell, the
City peoples frown wasn't so pretty.
It seems now that the forest was gone,
the City people missed the tranquility of
the forest that had been full of trees.
It could be said that all was not well
on the day that the last tree fell.

James,

People will eventually die without trees.  There is this thing called photosynthesis.

This is such a sad thing.

I live in a city, but in the 1980's I cleared my garden and I bought indigenous trees and my son (then very young) planted me an indigenous forest.  Subsequently my children gave me indigenous trees for birthday and Christmas presents and now the trees themselves and the birds are carrying on the tradition.  If I wasn't so healthy long before I had my forest, I would think that my forest is the reason why I am so healthy.

Thank you for this, dear James.

No, certainly everything is wrong when people cut down trees without substituting them. Forest preservation is a priority need of humanity.

We should never allow that people who ignore the balance of nature are given the power to destroy our very source of life.

There must be more clear laws and more, much more action and control.

Love,
Margherita

Great poem James.

Let’s stop the worry ,there are more trees now on planet USA than was here when the Pilgrims landed.

Ain’t that good news .

But that could change .

A very important and thought provoking write
this one James for it has happened in so

many places around the world. Trees are far more important than most people realize. Over my life time I have planted several

thousand trees of a wide range of varieties.
Thank you for bringing this topic to everyone's attention. Take care my friend.

It is believed that the inhabitants of Easter Island perrished because they destroyed all the trees.  They no longer had fuel to cook, logs to build homes and boats with.  We are doing the same thing with the rain forrests.
Great poem to make people think.
