Autumn Lullaby

When fall arrives as summer ends
And welcomes us with cooling winds
The trees dress up so bright and bold
Trimmed with leaves of red and gold

The morning air is crisp and clean
And meadows have a glistening sheen
Of frost that coats each blade of grass
That sparkles just like crystal glass

A smoky scent floats through the air
Rising up from barrels where
The neighbors burn the leaves that fell
Touched by autumns magic spell

The shrubs and bushes stand undressed
Revealing an empty robin’s nest
The tiny rodents burrow deep
Preparing for their winter sleep

The flowers drop their spring time blooms
And rest within their garden rooms
Awaiting natures wake up call
While sleeping through the days of fall

If you listen closely you can hear
A soothing sound so soft and clear
That closes nature’s tired eyes
As autumn sings her lullabies

I've been thinking about Autumn lately myself.  The chill in the morning air leaves me no choice.  I like the phrasing in this one.  Nicely done.

Steven~
You are just so soothingly word-beautiful~

I am still in this danged hospital, but fighting with all I've got to get better and run the meadow before those trees are bare~

Thank you so much for all of your thoughtful emails and well-wishes~
