Car 11
September 16th, 1970- December 6th, 2007

As a hero you were laid to rest,
A memory none of us will ever forget.
A million tears shed,
As disbelief shadowed over us just like the clouds that day.
The tones went out,
Your final call,
The distant sound of the horns,
Reminding us all of your absence.
Even though you are gone,
We think about you every day.
Your loss left a hole that will never be repaired.
To describe you would be unfair,
Words cannot accurately express the man you were.
Quiet, always willing to lend a hand,
Those you loved put before anyone else,
Including yourself.
Only 37,
Your kind and caring heart gave out.
The very people you rescued countless with,
Helplessly tried to bring you back with the skills they never thought they would have to use on one of their own.
Completely unprepared for this tragedy,
We came together as one,
In remembrance of a man that held a place in each person’s heart.
We said goodbye to you in the only way you deserved,
The bag pipes,
The engines,
The flags,
Ironed uniforms.
Wishing we were dreaming,
Forced to say goodbye much to soon.
Hard to make sense of something that seems so wrong.
In two days, you would have turned 38,
Another year to you,
But it would have meant the world to us.
For now,
Our tears still fall,
Cold and fast,
Just like the rain on the day we laid you to rest,
A hero,
Our hero.

Extremely poignant! Almost unbearable, as is the thought of so many families living this tragedy!

Beautifully written tribute.

Love and Peace.

Deff something that carries on to all those who have dedicated their lives to us, only to give the ultimate sacrifice...Very Beautiful

Often when we can get our thoughts written out so that we can see, and share them, it can help us just by the very act of sharing.
Thank you for sharing your private thoughts.

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
