Although this was written a long time ago, as can be seen by its date, the posting (or perhaps re-posting?) was inspired by Miscellanea's poem, "The evaporation of Moment" and TheAnonDavid's response to it.

RELISH THE 31 557 600 SECONDS OF 1999
December 1998

Awake with the year like a child on a birthday.
Feel new life sprout through the pavement cracks.
Grasp with both hands, every quivering moment,
and ignite them all
with Life in the round.

Reach past the laughter and smiles of the homeless;
endure their raw anguish
and savour each unconstrained joy.

Set free your emotions and tease them alive.
Toss them, turn them, wave them, wear them, stretch them, shake them, shock them,
teach them how to run, fly and dive.

Crack the encasement that traps all your senses;
sing patterns made by light and shade;
colour your canvas with whispering breezes;
touch the sweet fragrance of milky-white night flowers;
taste honey’s secret -
and walk barefoot
on sharp gravel stones.

Quite an interesting set of resolutions this would make. Be prepared to look for the beauty in the darkness but expect it to be a rough painful ride at times.
It's good to know that I had a small part in the revival of this fine rendering, Owl.

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Yes, thank you for being a (large) part of the revival of this, David. I like how you interpreted it and I agree, with a small qualification.  Have you ever walked barefoot on sharp gravel stones or on fairly sharp rocks on the beach?  It is quite a pleasant sensation - not really pain, but sort of like a foot massage.

Thank you Barry.  Yes, you are right - and there isn't a tomorrow, because when it arrives, we call it "today".  Besides that, there is so much beauty - and pain - to experience at any given moment, and it seems wrong not to feel every bit of it.  I cry often and easily (perhaps making up for my childhood and teenager years when I held in the tears with amazing success - especially in front of my mother - I kept them for my pillow some nights) especially when reading Pip poems - perhaps that is what keeps me so healthy - perhaps that washes away all the germs trying to get at me!

Oh, dear Diana, take a bow!

That's indeed how we are meant to live, LIVING and feeling the joy and the sadness of every moment with deep involvement.

I am happy that Misc and David made you go find this gem!

Love,
Margherita

Thank you Margherita for your warm words.  Yes, living with passion has its blessings but its price too, which I pay gladly for the benefit of both.
