New American Boogie

Oh narcotic neurotic New America
bring me some sleep in the car seat
under a moon playing blues harmonica
and in my dreams I sing the song so sweet
keeping me in her metaphorical arms
rock n' roll lives, the snakes and charms
they are keeping me warm
tonight
tonight, oh tonight

Ooh cryptic elliptic South California
seeping from my eyes like maple tears
twirling the sun around like a ballerina
and in her smile I feel the easing of fears
come, contain me in your heart
the jukebox sings, finish at the start
never tear these feelings apart
today
sun ray, shine today

Oh so gently
we fall right into gravity's rainbow
oh so softly
I feel the atomic beauty as she glows
and who really knows
yeah who ever understands
that when god and the devil shake hands
this is all over, blown cover
but till then, dear lover
let's boogie on down the line
sweet aromic Potomac via South Caroline
oh my my

You know we gotta
boogie on down the American line
you know I wanna
feel a nuclear clarity in my mind
heart's exploding all the time
yeah heart's feeling the burn
and all the lessons I've yet to learn
when this is over, I'll still love her
and we'll crash into eachother
and boogie on down the line
hard brilliant light on Hollywood & Vine
oh yeah yeah

Oh ironic platonic North American
bring me some dreams in the car seat
under a moon smoking funky Jamaican
and all my songs I sing for the girl so sweet
keeping me in her metaphorical heart
rock n' roll dozes off at a crucial part
and I'm dusting off a new place to start
tonight
tonight, oh it'll be right
just alright
just alright
lover just hold tight
tonight

Oh my my
oh yeah yeah
my oh my
we gotta boogie on down the American line

"Now if I seem to be afraid
to live the life that I have made in song,
well it's just that I've been losing for so long" -Jackson Browne 'These Days
