Dear Alison, I stand there in awe with you and absorb this fantastic event, thanking God for the new day and the beauty with which it announces itself.

And God has found in you the perfect artist to share such grand emotions. Thank you!

Love and hugs.

Lovely poem and photo, Alison.

Sometimes, for example, in walking through a natural forest, like our local nature reserve (about 2 kilometres away from my indigenous forest garden home) or even driving past it, or looking at a sunrise or sunset sky, I am overwhelmed by the fact that there is far too much beauty to take in all at once and I want to spend minutes imbibing the colour, shape and position of every leaf of every tree, the flow of every branch, the texture of the bark of every tree and the light and shade that play upon it, the appearance of artistic interaction between each tree and the ones around it - and that just for a start - which would require several hours before taking the next step, or driving the next car length with regard to the forest - and in the case of the sky, hours drinking in each changing shape of each cloud and the sun, and each nuance of colour and transition of colour - but then sunrises and sunsets displays change so quickly and the sky is so wide and one can't see it all at once - and there just isn't enough time to see it all and appreciate it to the full.  It saddens me that there are so many people who just simply don't ever see these things, and even when one points them out to some people, they appreciate them fleetingly and insignificantly.  I often feel that it is such a waste of the gift of vision.

Margherita,

I am fortunate.  I take most of my pictures as I drive to work.  I took this one this morning.  I kind of think of these as my thank you cards for where I live and for what I get to see every day.

Love,
Alison

Darling -Owl,

I know just what you mean.  I, too, made no time to stop for the pictures.  I have to get to work like everyone - then one day recently, I just stopped.  It takes only a few minutes though I could stay in that one spot all day.  I haven't tried taking pictures of tree bark.  You know that I will now.

Thank you, my friend.

Love,
Alison

Oh Allison, You have made my morning!  I too love trees, early morning sunrises and evening setting of the sun. Nature never disapoints if one but opens an eye to it. Thank you,"late"

Too often we are oblivious to the wonders of the things we see around us. Your poem serves as a reminder not to ignore those breath taking sights we take for granted.

Both the picture and the message are beautiful Alison. Indeed, we should all take the time and the inspiration to stop and enjoy what is all around us each and every day. Much enjoyed this.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Oh, yes, Alison, I DO know that you will look at and take photo's of tree bark now.  You will be surprised at how different the bark each kind of tree is and how the sunlight plays on it - especially the very rough barks - my favourite along with the ghostly bark of Acacia xanthophloeas [fever trees]) - and how elegantly the trees stretch and curve their trunks and branches.

Jaime,

I am so sorry.  I was thoughtless not to share the words of my poem with you.

The picture is an early dawn sunrise.  The sky is inky blue black with breaks of light shining through.  The sun is cracking open the darkness with a band of gold which is reflected in the river below.

I wrote:

Each dawn is painted on sky's canvas
Each beckons my eyes
And I gaze in wonder

Silent appreciation
Forces me to stop, slow down

And I am overwhelmed by beauty
Endless beauty,
That I sometimes forget to see.

Thank you for reminding me to show you my poem.

A stunning picture, Alison.  Thank you for gifting us with that and with your words.  I'm always looking at the sky which is perhaps why I don't pay much attention to what's on the ground but I will in future - no, I do really but it just doesn't "get me" like the sky does.

Enjoyed!
