I think less of gods as I get older,
without doubt
any god thinks even less of me.

In burning nights of August late
turning rites of magic toward recall,
autumnal equinox draws my mind beyond moons of Fate
turning wisps of thought ahead
as work falls hard upon precision;
often in my youth
these days were braced to reap the whirlwind
conjured carefully by cold intent,
to harvest horrors' prize of game
I knew to claim as mine,
never wondering
if age could stand
one day to have my name.

A sage might pray for clemency
confronting truth as calumny
with vapid indignation,
yet I still find when pressed in time
I don't pray forgiveness
I don't bend a poser's knee,
and never have I ever
offered up a godly supplication
filtered through the wistful lies
of shopworn grimed theology.

In youth I attended death's designs
as friend,
an ally
confidant,
a co-conspirator
dividing up a common want,
now I find when I look with care
my old friend awaits me there
patiently.

I very much liked the straight forwardness of this piece and not only do we get a read that intrigues the mind, it is written with a conviction that enhances it's body.  Very well done.

Intriguing as always. I have always admired the ability to tell the truth and to accept the truth.

God knows you better than you know yourself, dear Charlie, and you know what? He just loves you to pieces and His arms will be friendly and open wide ... when your waiting time will come to an end ...

Your wonderful poetry is an incredibly profound reflection of your path of life ... you have come to be what you are. Relax into the peace of your heart.

Love and hugs.
