Vision

Experience every prospect; take in each and every sight
Learn and study in minute detail all around you, all so bright
Remember every single aspect, of every glorious waking day
Savour each and every feature, record and memorize in your own way
Colours, sights and factors, paint and display pictures in your mind
Envisage every detail; leave nothing to chance, nothing left behind
For if your eyes should ever turn permanently, reluctantly from day to night
I want you to have good memories of all colours, elements, vivid, bright
Look deep into all around you, scrutinize and examine everything you do
For these are the visions and memories you will always keep with you
Should your eyes dim and fade to darkness, their brightness pale and turn to grey
You’ll always feel the colour and strength of my love for you, regardless come what may

Dear Claire, you wrote a beautiful poem. Sometimes even when we have good sight we still forget, but your advice is wise nonetheless. What we live intensely, will be intensely memorized.

Thankyou, our sight is something we automatically take for granted and its not until its threatened that it makes us think of how wonderful it is

Some years ago in the UK there was widespread press coverage about a young boy who needed urgent brain surgery. However, the doctors knew that the surgery would destroy his sight.
His parents wanted him to live so they opted for the brain operation. The press told stories of how, in the few days before his operation, his room was completely filled with colourful flowers and gaudily coloured toys so that he would always remember that view before he lost his sight.
Well done for writing so thoughtfully on such a difficult subject, CMP.

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
