Here in our crowded,
slummy,
urban hood
the ground is fertile.

Some of our flowers
grow old,
like my next door neighbor
Bill,
who died yesterday morning.

He was a good,
hard working man,
who raised a big family
of good people.

Then there’s my friend Bones
from long ago,
a flower cruelly plucked
before his time.

All our flowers are beautiful here.

Bobby

This is great, that you compare your friends to flowers, dear Bobby. And I do not doubt that they fully deserve this tribute.

I can feel you are in total harmony with your place and your people.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks dear Margherita,

Yes, we all have our histories here, and we know it.  That allows us to be together on most everything.

We're lucky.

I like that flowers grow in the hood, Bobby.  Human ones and ones in small gardes, both make me smile.

Bobby, this is a beautiful poem written with a sad, loyal anger.  Whilst I understand (in as far as one can feel another's anguish), I wish I - or anyone else - could take the edge off that anger and cynicism, and see those shoulders drop, and a slow, deep smile spread over your face at some simple natural beauty - even if just for a moment . . .

Yo OwlSA,

Where did you ever come up with the idea that people from the hood don't smile and laugh.

I smile and laugh all the time, and so do my neighbors.

Yo dear Owl,

What is so unnatural about people?  I think people are beautiful.  I smile at them all the time.  I'm going to my next door neighbor’s funeral tomorrow morning.  I hope to make some sad people smile, and I plan to smile myself.

You can't change me, and no one else can.  I'm city.  I've had bad experiences in the country.  I try not to visit there.  I don't want to smell the roses.
