Beneath a tall imposing tree
sits a woman just like me
in contemplative wait
for a beginning or an end.

She could draw a line
if on the sea shore
or get to the other side
if paddling her canoe
but beneath a tall imposing tree
what can she really do?

So she sits there just like me
thinking on “hello/goodbye”
and how the two are joined
in love’s eternal sphere
until the snap and tear
and one or other disappears.

Down from the sky
or from a woman’s mind
that fateful word “goodbye”
like snow to chill the bones
and she freezes up in situ.

Where is the moon?  It’s not up above
to shine down a hello
when it’s needed most
and she suffers through goodbye
determined not to cry.

But beneath a tall imposing tree
what can she really do
except sit and contemplate
and calculate
how many goodbye’s
can fit into the love sphere
of a frozen woman
beneath a tall imposing tree.

Too many to count and she passes out
to sleep through the moon’s hello
that nightly re-appears
until morning breaks the sphere
and sun again burns goodbye
into a woman’s mind!

Honey, may today and all of your tomorrows be rife with wonderful "Hellos" and no tearful "Good-byes".

You are a fine poetess. I always feel your words.

Hi Linda - Believe me when I say that I feel them too so I'm going to pass out and sleep it away - hopefully.

Love
Helen
