Shattered dreams

On that festive summer afternoon
smiles shone on everybody’s face
and we strolled hand in hand
along this stream of merriness.
Not a thought of worry clouded my sky.

Then suddenly you mumbled
some excuse and left me alone
“Honey, I’ll be back in a minute ...”.

The minute passed and the sun
was still shining bright in my sky.
Five minutes passed and a tiny
hint of boredom swept through me.
Ten minutes passed and my feet
tapped the ground nervously.

Fifteen minutes seemed outrageous
enough to induce me to go look for you.
Impatiently I entered the house,
totally unprepared for the scene
that invested me on the forth floor.

There you stood, smiling into her eyes
with your arms upon her shoulders …
For what seemed an eternity
I couldn’t breathe or utter anything.
Finally I heard myself shouting
with a voice that didn’t seem mine at all
“Now you won’t need to lie anymore!”

You turned towards me in disbelief
and in the same instant I flew
down the stairs at hair raising speed,
driven by inconceivable shock and pain.
You ran after me and  blocked me
just in time before I could escape
through the entrance door ...

You held my pale face in your hands
frantically kissing me all over ...
At the edge of fainting I heard you say
“Baby, it isn’t what you think it is ...”

But baby felt the coldness of death
flood her mind as well as her heart you see,
in those moments of shattered dreams,
she simply wasn’t able to think ...

*
(note: just an emotion that surfaced from the past and asked to be relived and ... dismissed )
*

Whew!  I was so glad to come at last to your footnote.  I was really worried for a moment.  They say the past only hurts if we let it but sometimes in the remembering it does hurt until it's "dismissed" and we breathe again.  I try not to remember but, you know, it's almost as if I'm numb these days so maybe memories both good and bad aren't such a bad thing.

Great poem Margherita, much enjoyed but I couldn't help myself in changing the last

couple of words. I hope you are not offended. Love and hugs my dear.

From release comes relief and from each scar imparted on our heart comes the wisdom to strive for better in our tomorrows.  Lots of vivid emotions painted in this one.

When I saw the title, I thought, "Oh, please no.  Please no shattered dreams for Margherita."  When I saw the footnote, I was so hoping that you were going to say that it was fiction and based on a picture, a book, a movie, or the like.  I know there has been sorrow in your life - it has surfaced from time to time.  But I just don't want you to have experienced such sorrow.  You are the epitome of love to everyone else, and everyone in PIP loves you.  You deserve only the very, very best.  I know you said it was in the past, but it was shattering enough for you to have remembered it with such fervour, and it was certainly shattering to your readers.

Huuuuuuuuuuuge hugs from me, meeows from my cat, Tigger, and woofs from my dog, Daisy.

My dear Maga Margherita, as you so often do to me, Owl has now down as well ~ taken the words right out of my mouth! She beat me to the punch and wrote the reply that I would have written ~ if I had as fine a mind and pen.

I love you, girlfriend, and it pains me to know that you ever had to experience that kind of heartache. Like yourself, I have put it behind me, but at times those hurtful memories can surface without a moment's notice. You wrote well of those emotions.

This was different for you Margharita and surprised me a little. I think we have all had some disappointment in our past and not everyone handles it as well as you. Great poem and and good therapy as well I'm sure.

Thank you so much, dear Helen! This event in my life has occurred a long time ago and I don’t know why it came up so powerfully these past days, but for sure I never forgot how I felt then and jotting it down felt somehow liberating yes. Numbness is to flee like hell, better laugh or cry … We are the sum of our experiences, the important thing is not to be stuck, life is so gracious in its freshness every new morning!

Dear Michael fresh Arctic Wind, thank you! You are so wise at your young age! I am glad you appreciated this “real life” poem.

Thank you dear Kushal, for reading and commenting with your beautifully sensitive heart!

Thank you dear James, high time yes! But funny nonetheless how such events surface again after one might reasonably suppose to have forgotten!

Dear Lindsay, there is absolutely no reason to be offended! I thank you instead from my heart. Your suggestion is quite lovely.
I know you have a highly musical ear and I appreciate you very much!

Dear D., thank you, it’s a pleasure to find your reply here.  Your words are wise and indeed I did grow new wings …

Thank you, dear Kenneth, it’s nice to hear you felt the depth. Amazing how memories can be still so powerful!

Dear Hope, thank you for your warm and kind comment. It was heartbreaking indeed, I was told afterwards that I was as pale as a ghost …

Thank you, dear Mark, I am glad if I could convey the vivid emotions. It was a tough lesson, but a lesson it was.

Diana dear friend, your words touch my heart you know, thank you for your warmth and caring! And for the sweetness of Tigger and Daisy! Tamàs Gabor was an important love story in my life and it saddens me that I don’t know where he is and how his life evolved, but I do hope he is happy with his destiny. The last thing he said to me after I told him that I was getting married was “when you are putting the ring on his finger, think of me … it should have been us, you know”. Oh God, Diana!! No, I did not think of him in that moment, but I have never forgotten his eyes when he said those words, they were deep ponds of imponderable sadness … But I had my responsibilities too! I have my dark sides too, no doubt. I might not be that deserving after all!

My sweet Linda Angelo Terrestre, thank you from my heart, I know you feel me! But well, in comparison to other things that I had to endure in my life, that painful discovery can be considered a minor accident … but then how can we enjoy beauty, when we have never known its opposite? Thank you for your love.

Dear Ida, thank you so much for your warm reply. I have long ago forgiven this man, we were young then …  and he too had a few things to forgive me . But you know you are right, it is a good thing to write about it.

Thank you, dear Bobby, for appreciating this one. You love realism I know.

Dear Nourzihane, thank you so much for your kind words and for the wonderful white roses! I love them, they are gorgeous. You have a beautiful heart.

Dear Eric, thank you! Indeed it was an intense emotion. Jealousy isn’t the wisest feeling, but the heart sometimes reacts unexpectedly powerfully!

Thank you all once more. I am in the Now again and it means it’s time to go sleep …
Love to all of you, my dear Poet friends.
