This was written using the inspiration of Langston Hughes.
I am Stained

My struggles are not as yours
yet my heart beats as strong
for passion of the living
for freedom and her song.

A life lead by darkness
hovering since early years
tainted by violations
regressed and still in tears.

Unloved and unwanted
never a prize to be won
the road less traveled
is the one I walked upon.

Falsified hopes and dreams
searching for a way to escape
committed to a union—bound
by infidelity and ill of fate.

The race of life fell hard
upon my narrow shoulders
for the race that I had married
turned my family colder

To the choices I had made
and unaccepted by some
as transgressions yielded
who I was to become.

A survivor at best
through the rough terrain
of prejudices and intolerance.
I am stained.

Yet still I remain.

And there can be a positive change eventually.
I think this is a well structured, very sensitive write and touches upon a topic that is still a priority even now.
I did check Langston Hughes and no doubt he deserves your mentioning him.
