Overcome by anxiety
I wander around campus
Like a chicken with no head
Dazed and confused
Praying for some refuge

But instead I dig myself
Into a hole
Ambling and rambling
While I nervously
Fidget with my necklace

And so I retreat into my dorm
Hopelessly praying
For a better day
Just another chance
At this collegiate game

Yo dear The Shadow in Blue,

You'll do fine Hon.

College is new to everyone, and they all have a case of the nerves.

Relax, I went through that back in 1956 when I was an old guy of 20.  I had flunked two years in grade school.

Love Bobby

It's amazing how quickly you get used to it and make new friends. Good Luck.

Dear Shadow,

You gonna let a couple of terrible optimists spoil a perfectly good anxiety attack?  Think of it as another gift from home that keeps on giving.  You're supposed to feel guilty about making your own religious decisions, too, and now you're in a new place and scared about that.  If I ever heard of a case of normal neurosis acting at its most normal, I think this just about takes the cake.  Pretty soon you'll be feeling guilty for having a wicked wandering eye, and we all know where that leads—yup, extra time studying, with all the rest of the normal neurotics in the dorm, and a lot of speculation.  How neurotic can you get.
Or maybe you might make friends, as if you'll have time for that.  It'll cut into your worrying time.

Actually, sounds pretty on schedule to me.  Can't wait to hear about the terrors of the second day.  There will be some.  I know this.  I really really do.

Shadow, I'm so proud of you I could squeak.

Don't change a darn thing, you're doing fine.  Just fine.

Oh, Jill, I remember my "First Day" in Nursing School. So many things went wrong! The powers that be never registered me a room in the dorm!
I kept waiting and waiting for name to be called out  Finally I asked why I hadn't been assigned a room yea and to my chagrin, they said there wasn't one! They ended up putting me in an old decrepit dorm with all the all the senior students. I was away from my classmates and felt so alone. To make a 'sad' story short, I made some great friends who ended up teaching me many things about nursing and gave me a leg up on all of my classmates! I would also have nightmares about getting lost and not finding my classes ~ which were reflections of my reality! In time I settled in and learned the ropes and found my way around! Sheesh! I truly do understand how you must have felt!

Things will most definitely improve and you'll fit right in and be comfortable with your new surroundings, your classes, and all the new people that will be coming into your life!

Love and a comforting hug,
Linda

So, as you can see in my latest post, I'm starting to discover myself in this lovely college realm, however rocky the path and I would just like to thank you all for your words of encouragement. It means a lot to me.

And Bob, day two was a lesser degree of yesterday until I, as my best friend puts it, "got over" my, at the time, lingering anxiety. So, hopefully now I can commence on my surely interesting and probably rocky path.
Oh, and studying sounds fun, especially with my wandering eye. (and yes I had to go there)

Good for you Jill!  I'm proud of that eye of yours.  Enjoy! Enjoy! And remember, there's always a little extra room for anxiety, it's like dessert.  Just don't gorge yourself.

That simile was so...amusing. I've never actually thought of anxiety like at desert. So is it like Cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving/Christmas- a seasonal thing?
Although, I might just skimp on that particular desert moreso now. Although I might season with it. (I think I killed the food metaphor now.)

Jill,

I am so glad that you are getting used to things.  Just when you think you have it under control, it all explodes again.  That's the fun (and stress) of college - but I am sure you will do fine and enjoy the heck out of yourself.

Keep us posted!

Why did you have to be right Alison, sans the fun.
