Adolesance. Just saying the words makes me think of changing voices, pimples, tragic make-overs and school-work. The was adolesance where I came from, the time inbetween child and adult, where nothing mattered, yet everything did. Baby-luv, your face is clear to my mind, and I kneal at night underneath the moon, and prey to any gods who would here, that you are safe and not found. For I am running from them always, keeping on my toes. Ten-years, they had said they would give me, but ten-years it has not been. Adolesance, baby-luv, is a hard time for anyone, but the people here...

There is no adolesance, since the birth, they are on the streets, a blaster in their hands and daggers strapped to their boots. In these dangerous fields where everything seens to decay, there is life. I teach them games, keeping my cap low and voice a whipser,  I tell them stories of a better life, where kids were kids, not adults trying to make a name for themselves. They fend for themselves, being watched by disease. I am immune.

They leave me alone, and here I witness them die, the girls who should have been playing hopscotch, even if outlined in blood. The boys who should be admiring the girls, playing with their hair. They should be experiencing love, not death or the fear of being raped. Adolesance doesn't exist here, where the young don't thrive, but die...and die.

Blood-bathes when they should be worried about passing school.

Do you remember, baby-luv, what it was like to live? Live it up, baby-luv, let down your hair, and live through the past, present and future. It all seems so far away...

Yo dear Lady Ayla,

This is a great write.  I like it loads.

It's also very sad, I suppose.  Life can be sad, very sad.

This sounds like home.  Perhaps 16th Street in Wheeling.  Or was it 13th Street in Wheeling?

It's been a while.

What part of West Virginia are you from?

Love Bobby

The subject matter is deep, I felt like I was reading a movie. Great writing.

Dear Heather, adolescence is indeed such a confusing span of time and all the more young people need love and directives and examples to follow. Some may be only foolish, but some could be at deep risk to harm themselves and others by not recognizing (they have forgotten and not yet rediscovered) the precious gift of life and the beauty of walking on the personal and collective path of evolution.

Well done.

Love,
Margherita
