Calloused hands that have gone through so much hardships in life. Calloused from splitting wood for the long-chilled winters, building houses, and from spanking ten children when they behaved badly. Hands that are forever sun-bathed brown from working outside since they were old enough, strong enough to help out in the household. Hands that are scared from life, hard hands that are wrinkled with age. Liverspots cover the backs of them, brown-red in color.

Hands that have helped birth a variety of animals, the film covering them, sticky but yet meraculous.

Hands that have also polished the walnut barrel of a Remington, fired, and cleaned.

Hands that have skinned animals, and gutted them.

Nails that are stained from taking pinches of Red Indian tobacco. Hands that are soft and gentle from holding his children.

Hands that are big enough to envelope the entire hand of a child, my hand.
