Regeneration

In loving memory of my grandfather, Earl Gordon Jewell 1920-2007
And My grandmother Shirley Francis Jewell 1926-2007
United in Love, Life and Eternity

Anew the light splits darkness,
As another soul enters into life.
The call has come up from beyond,
For another to be brave and sure,
Wrapped in mortality so young and pure.

For some it is to gain a measure,
Others still to learn and treasure.
Living teaches us to die,
And dying teaches us the truth.
Every end has a beginning locked inside.

As days grow short and nights grow cold,
The seasons change; the young grow old.
As Spring has turned to Winter once again,
We hesitate before the chilling frost,
Fearing that, in change, all will be lost.

Some remain strong till the end,
And death comes swiftly for them.
But still others turn as children, once again,
To await in a swiftening slowness,
The hour of their crossing o'er again.

Anew the light splits darkness.
As another soul parts the veil, returns.
"Welcome Home", our long awaited friend,
They see at last the life that has no end.
For they have run their race,
And having set their pace,
Again, meet their immortality face to face.

Yes, I do believe it is like this. This is a wonderful and wise write, I enjoyed it much.

Sherry, my words are most inadequate in expressing how deeply your poem touched me.

Your grandparents must surely be smiling down upon you from heaven for this adoring write filled with love and wisdom.

God bless them! ~ and you!

Love & Eternal Light,
Linda

What a wonderful way to honor your grandparents, such a beautiful poem and (as I believe) such apt discription of death.

Thank you everyone for your gracious replies. Posting this was something that was long overdue. I had no idea when I wrote it nearly 20 years ago that it would fit so appropriately to my grandparents. I cannot say a day goes by that I don't think of them, want to call my grandmother and get her advice or just catch up. I miss them both terribly but I know that I will see them both again.
