Social workers
from the settlement
often wondered why
Bones was so skinny.

If they knew bones life,
they could figure that out
for themselves.

He just didn’t
get enough to eat.

His old man
was non-existent,
and his old lady
spent most of her nights
sleeping it off
under a table
at the local bar.

She seldom bothered
to feed the kid.

And that the f---ing truth!

Bobby

So sad, dear Bobby, but I do hope that those who realized Bones was so skinny did provide in some way?
And again ... there are still too many skinny children all over the world. But though it seems a priority to every sensitive human heart, it does not seem to be a priority for political leaders and economical "champions" all over the world.

So sad!

Love,
Margherita

Again thanks, Bobby, for the glimpses into this life that you take so much interest in your present writings.
I felt the last line was a little strong--but I guess, that is just your way of expressing the strongness of your disdain.

Thanks dear Margherita,

Political leaders reflect the wishes of those that elect them, or put them in power.

The Social Worker Knows Squat
                          —for Robert E. Jordan

Everybody thought
The social workers
From the settlement
Didn’t know squat.

Bones thought Mrs Flannigan was blind
When she didn’t see
Bones had an Old Man.
Bones had to have come from somewhere.

Mrs. Flannigan was too stupid
To know if she should ask
Or not ask Bones’ Old Lady.

Mrs Flannigan was a fool,
Who didn’t know not to bother
Bones’ Old lady

Under the tables at Barney’s,
When the sun was coming up
The color of an egg yolk

With a blood clot floating.
You could tell those settlement
Social workers anything.
They’d look at you with

The spaces between your
Bones showing, as if it
Might change something.
That Bones, he fooled everyone.

The truth is that, sometimes,
For years at a time, even the women
Wearing real pearls, the social
Workers at the settlement house
Pretend things will work out okay.
