.

Women
Are different
From men

Men understand
An end of things
Women never do

So men go on
Beyond the doors
They close

While women wait
For their return

smile

Is this in reference to any one of his poems, or just the "all" of it?

Thank you.

I should know more of his work, as I fell in love with Love's Stratagems long ago, and although I really suck at reciting poems, that is one that I have never forgotten.

I'm off to read more now.

Thanks for your assistance and nudge.

very philosophical. But I wonder if it is true.

Wonderful poem!

Okay.

I just wish this were up for a more in depth analysis, because I tossed off a less than thoughtful response, but after re-reading your poem, and the last stanza of Men at Forty (which I loved, btw)

I can feel the depth of a greater sadness than I did on first read.

I'm a lover of a last line punch, so I hope it's not intrusive for me to quote that last stanza here?

"That is like the twilight sound
Of the crickets, immense,
Filling the woods at the foot of the slope
Behind their mortgaged houses."

smile

a new appreciation from me--so if that is what you were aiming for, you did succeed.

"behind their mortgaged houses."

to your own

"While women wait
For their return"

It's true.

A woman will wait until she's evicted by authorities. Sadly. Usually.

hmm

maybe not all women...

I'll shaddup.

John,

This is a well done generalization.

I'll have to think about this for awhile.
