I Believe in Miracles

To what depth of sorrow shall one heart be destined?
And what is that sorrows' shame and dishonor?

But only a word, this sorrow, scarcely understood -
Until it is the marrow, the fabric, each woven thread of flesh:
The essence of each day and each night
Then, at that moment of each hour
Its depth is certainty, and alive

It is nearness, a permeating scent of decay.
Not to the nostrils, but to a mind

Thoughts begin to discolor and blacken a heart.
Truly unknown the time or day it would start.
And once begun -
Only a miracle would see it undone

I believe, do you?

JL!  You've been missed on these blue pages.  What a sad but so very real poem.  I do believe in miracles but sometimes they're so small that we don't recognize them for what they are.  You made me think about my own sorrow ... and the many miracles I've been blessed to receive.  Thank you.

My best to you.
Helen

JL...So nice to see you posting again my friend, you have been missed.
We must believe and have hope, for without it and a purpose what is there left in life that matters...Paul

JL, I've missed your thought-provoking pennings ~ and you.

You effectively conveyed a sense of sadness and of the dark and dreary. However, there is a glimmer of light and your belief in miracles will save the day! May your miracle be just around the corner.

Giving you a warm, welcome-back hug,
Linda

Hello, Texas. Very thought provoking write...and deeply intimate in its way. It's good to read you again. Don't be a stranger!

Oh yes,
It is this ultimately, that faith stirs to heal the deepest unseen wounds.
Welcome home JL.

JL it is a joy to see you are back! This is an intensely beautiful yet melancholic write. The miracle consists in being aware of being part of the whole and of being able to tap into the well of Universal love. I do believe, yes.

Love,
Margherita

Yes, I do.  And I believe in poetry and those who write poems.  It's good to read you again.
