I was sitting on a street curb
in Mumbai,
eating my lunch,
when I was approached by two,
thin, hungry, begger boys.

The children dropped to their knees,
reached out their hands,
begging for food.

I was ready to eat an apple.

I offered it to one of the boys—
no response.

Then I offered it to the other boy,
again—no response.

The boys did not look like brothers,
they were obviously just friends.

I then cut the apple in half,
and offered half of the apple to each.

They ate the halves hungrily.

This was true nobility,
this was the finest manisfestation
of the true human spirit.

Those two guys were
looking out for each other.

This was as it should be.

Bobby

Thanks dear Ida,

It's not a story, that's the way it was.

How nice of you Bobby!-- It sucks how many people are homeless and hungry. I want everyone to have homes and food.

Thanks Poddarku,

Kids like those two guys, taking care of each other, are our main hope.

Thanks Secondhanddreampoet,

I'm pleased this one worked out for you.

Those two kids knew that sharing was the only way to go.  Never get greedy, or you lose it.

Bobby, I do so appreciate you sharing that story with us. I was very moved by it. Those young boys truly were noble in not wanting to take away from the other but were quite willing to share.

~ and you were kind, magnanimous, ~ and wise!
