11.68 Billion Profit

Eleven billion, six hundred eighty million
Is what Exxon made in ninety days
One hundred thirty million in one day
Are the profits that, America pays.

Five and one-half million in an hour
And ninety thousand for each minute
Fifteen hundred for each second
For that gas liquid, which we covet.

That’s just profits from, one company
Of the scores, that sell us gas and oil
While we pay four bucks per gallon
From those falling wages, of our toil.

While their profits go through the roof
Everything we buy, costs so much more
From those toxic goods from foreign lands
To Salmonella, from, the grocery store.

The oil companies and our government
Have us clamoring to drill for more
Exactly what they want us to do
So they can do ANWR and offshore.

It’s just another of those great con jobs
To keep us from, developing new ways
To become, independent from their racket
That, just pays, and pays, and pays, and pays.

That is the second poem I have read about gas prices. The first one that I read was funny, but this one kinda grinds my gears, even though I am not the one paying the prices for gasoline, it just makes me think how much it will be when I start to drive.

Yo Abe,

Petroleum is not an inexhaustible natural resource.  I’m thinking of investing in a horse farm.

The cost is too high... At Canadian price equivalent we are paying $4.63/gal.
The cost... I can't afford to visit my kids as often.
I can't afford to go to the Library which is a half hour away.

These facts you have delivered are very hard on a grandmother.

The one good thing? I'm not able to afford the edible treats that used to fill out my grocery basket.

I just hope this all results in some wise decisions for our energy future.

I rather think the oil companies are hoarding their profits because they know what's coming. Their demise!

So it shall be.

This economic reminder should be shared across the nations. The poets are the prophets who point to change.

well done!

yep...that about covers it!...well said!

[it is so very sad that this "Runaway American Dream"...the greatest experiment
in participatory representative 'democracy' in the history of human'kind'...is ever-
slipping (devolving) into a media-hyped corporate 'mediocracy' [and likely ultimately
dragging much (most?) of the world along with it]...someday there will perhaps be
just one global C.E.O. (instead of national presidents, prime ministers, etc.)

applause for this 'penning'!

Exactomondo! I'm investing in alternative energy sources! How could anyone go wrong doing likewise! Surely there will be rewards both monetarily ~ and environmentally! A win-win situation, as I see it!

Another fine write, Abe!

Enjoyed...I believe in using all of our natural resources...if we developed alternative forms of energy the prices would go down due to competition...so with gasoline over four dollars a gallon, whats stopping them?  The President should call the Congress back into a special session, in which all of the energy options are considered and voted on...James

I believe that as long as we let ourselves be conned into drilling for more oil we will never develope anything else and history has proven this to be true. We should havebeen working on alternative energy sources for years now.
