The climax will take place on Friday
with turbulent tide and boyant cheer;
When All is “best” at the end of week
The need is crystal clear.

“Bubbly in the glass,” she says,
While we loosen our sins and dirt…
Twisting the button, Sir…
I’ll file your tie and shirt.”

“In bubbles, we’ll wash our wiles away,
Of the small things that we sweat.”
Then slipping, sliding, tootsie gliding,
The cotton, soaking wet.

Two, four, six mates
Perhaps, an odd one through the gate;
Be they athletic, brown, or black,
For those yearning, suds they snack.

        So…

On a sea of rolling waves,
their bodies are freely tossed,
Frolicking footsies and their soles,
As if against the skin, they’re washed.

Tossing, turning, their heat is burning,
Too soon, the spin does end;
The pairs will be re-united,
Placed in drawer for time to spend.

If all your socks don't match, I suspect an extra one jumped in out of pure envy! *chuckle*

Mission accomplished, sweet lady!

Margherita,

    Ah... You're so sweet!   Actually, my creativity has gone and left me for a while!  (I found this old one in a file.)  It'll just have to do until my creativity takes a number and goes up to bat again.  Hm...  maybe there's a poem in that!

    Thanks for taking time to read and enjoy.

Owl,

   To be a sock... Only in the wash, I hope.
I can't relish the thought of being trapped between a shoe and sweaty feet.  And--that toe jam is no treat, I hear.  I enjoyed your comment.  Thanks!

Serenity,

   Truly, it might seem one would jump into the fun with pure envy, but as it works out, those socks seem to sneek out one by one to find an exclusive, secret, dark hiding place.  I'm almost positive they are having a rendevous somewhere!  Naughty socks!  Sure wish I could find out where!  If I find out, I'll let everyone know...
   Thanks for your cute comment.  It gave me a chuckle, as well!

I enjoyed reading your poem, I was hooked at the first line, I wanted more by the end! I might have to look up some of your other poems if they are somewhat like this.

Lady Ayla,

    I would be delighted if you choose to check out any more of my poetry.  It varies quite a bit in theme and quality, as you'll find.  I do write humorous poetry such as this upon occasion, if you're interested in that.  I have a feeling you might like this one, although it's more of a romance.  Thank you for your kind words.

        The Maiden and Her Thief (a sequel to the Brussels Lace Fan)

Where have you been my lovely maiden
While over the world I traveled?
You’ve been the mist upon my breath;
Tell me, what stories have you to unravel?”

A gurgle of laughter and smidgeon of smile
Her fan now upon her lips,
“I don’t trust you, understand,”
As she began to relax her hips.

“Where have you been my lovely maiden
when waves were cast over hull?
You’ve been the dream that kept me dry,
the angel I kept on call.”

A flush of cheek and warming of eye,
her fan spread open wide,
“With you, My Pirate, who stows my heart;
From through the clouds I spied.

Held in lap my silken thread,
The needle of distant dreams;
With each stitch I sewed sail to you
Praying no weather extremes.

I’ve ripped the stitches a hundred times
While lightning whipped the sea,
Of fear, My Thief, I’ll never wear
The white silk you brought to me.”

Marge,

   Your cute response got this Sock-It-to-me-Mama all flustered!  I haven't heard the word, perdingy, in such a long time!  I love that word!  It was too much fun playing with the word, that I got carried away.  Is there a funny farm anywhere near?

A perdingy thingee,
a wingding ditty;
call it anything
but call it witty!
Call it the doctor
call it the nurse
Call it crocodile,
but, oh not the purse!
The purse is broken
and the verse is spent
See you later Alligator
My mind just WENT!

          hugs,

This reminds me of when I was a child and wash day was a major production. Clothes were hung outside and there was starching and ironing and all that fun stuff.Oh, but the clothes smelled so good. It was a gourmet meal. Thanks for reminding me.

Mmm, yes, I suppose so, Miscellanea.  I wasn't thinking about the non-wash life of a sock when I said that!

Enjoyed all the responses immensely - and Marge's and your perdingy word I have never heard before, but love it!

Loved is misc!  Oh, and the follow-ups too!  How lovely to find sensuality in the washing of socks - life will never be boring for one who can.

Ida,

   I just love your response.  It reminded me of my mother's wringer washer.  My mother hated wash day, but it was my favorite because we'd get to go down to the cellar of our old farm house.  I loved going down the ancient wooden steps and admiring the field stone walls.  The dirt between the stones was often loose, and I always wondered if I hadn't found a place with more of Tom Sawyer's gold hidden in the depths of the walls!  There was even a hole between the two rooms in which a small body could crawl!  But, ah, all this led to wash day, the day that I got to hand the wash from the basket to my mother so she could thread it into the wringer washer.  If I was "lucky", she'd let me thread a few pices, too.  I don't think she considered washing day lucky, but it was amazing to me to see the rollers work, sending over a cascade of water with each smooth twist of the rollers.
   Thank you, Ida, for bringing these memories forward.

     Hugs,
     miscellanea

Owl,

   It's great to hear from you again.  I'm glad you enjoyed the poem and the many responses.  Perdingy!  I'm glad you enjoyed that word, too.   That's another nice thing about reading other's writing and response.  You never know what you'll find!
   Thanks for your kind response.

"Again, again my funny friend? "

Marge, my dear, you ask so much
For a humorous poet I'll never be
unless I'm ten years old again,
climbing my mulberry tree.

   hugs,

    cathy

I've so enjoyed the gaming.  I probably will not be able to keep this up because my time will shortly become severely limited again.
Thanks for lifting my spirits, Marge.

Honeybunch,

   I'm glad you were amused by the poem.  You're right, life is always interesting when I try to animate things in my head or try to see analogies between things.  I must remember to do this more.

  I enjoyed your comment. Thanks!
