Nesting birds called
To their young ones
Needy mouths and blind trust.
The muezzin called
The faithful to prayer
Succor sought
With hearts aligned,
In an attempt to survive
In an attempt to find a rationale
In an attempt…always...

Little yellow electric bulbs
Shone bravely-
Lone sentinels in a cyclic battle
Distant stars
Blinked arrogantly
Cold reminders of presumptuous man
Twilight heralded darkness
Biological clocks began to unwind
Nature’s maze on a threshold.

Where does the night’s end begin?
The inebriated air
Jasmine and frangipani
Spiked with cinnamon
Assail relentlessly-
Your touch was never simple.

I long
for the grimy, cacophonous day.

Something about this reminds me of a van Gogh painting. Bold and full of the colors of life.
