This unkindest cut of all
is the lie that's never told.

You knew I knew
yet had no proof

as your silences divulged

I'd hit the eye of bull--again.
Defying logic's staticians

as I waited for the truth--

on that, you vowed

I could depend.

And every time you say nothing?
You lie to me again.

Paper cuts of blank white page--
always crafted double spaced,
inbetween the lines of life
I relive the pain of "then"
without the blood's allegience
of sacrifice and no repent--
"confession" is acknowledgement

It's not a means of punishment.

The mithraistic catholic
rites of purity are held
deep within the temple sounds
the beating drum and howling hounds
of all we could have rectified

if only

silence had not lied

in place of piety.

Serenity blaze,

I'm afraid I don't understand this at all.

Of course, what do I know?   I'm just an old Mackerel Snapper from the city, that's more than pleased my Priest keeps his mouth shut.

We're a little slow.

I'm afraid I don't thank people individually enough, but I am not exactly a very focused person.

XGaranpaxX--I feel like I should know you better, since you have been consistently encouraging of my...shtuff? ? I wanted you to know I very much appreciate your kind attentions. thank you

BJ--or Robert? Being understood, I admit, is sometimes very important to me. Other times I don't give a twit. This is one of the times that fall into the latter category. Please do note, however, I took care with my punctuation--lower cases in the religions mentioned--which I feel compelled to explain since you say you didn't understand. It was not an indictment of anyone's belief system.

And even though my critique flag is not "on", I have restored my e mail. So feel free to write me if you feel a need--though I doubt my musings will keep anyone up at night. I thank you for your honesty and time. I'm like you in that way--if I don't understand something, I say so. And I do appreciate your saying so.

Beaming at ThisDiamond...you indulge me, fair lady. My pen is just a pin feather in comparison to your quill. I do hope you know you are among my favorite poets here, and smile, you're also more than a "gem" of a person. Extra hugs to you!

Thanks for reading, with love and appreciation to all.

Yes, Karen, besides the ache, there is that sense of humiliation - a feeling that one's trust was betrayed - that one wasn't important enough for the truth.

Lies - even ordinary ones - destroy communication, and communication is the starting point of humanity.

Sensitively, honestly, exquisitely and superbly expressed with very fine brush strokes, as always.

A incredibly well stated reminder, dear Karen!

Only deeply sensitive people can handle certain truths ... that's probably why silence wins over confession sometimes.

Serenity!
Yet again, you come up with a wonderfully penned piece as always.

It has been a joy to read your poems, and I would love to read more!

Karen, I truly enjoy your earthy, honest writing and since I tend to be a trifle too honest myself, sometimes, I understand it very well. I'll keep reading as long as you keep writing.

Well I guess silence sometimes gives us the loudest answer, and being humble can be someone's worst fear K.  Nice write, right?

it leaves me to ponder lots....is "inbetween" a typo or deliberately spelt as one word? just curious...

Owl--I do so much venting here...and I'd nearly sworn off the more serious stuff, too. But people like you, with your constant encouragement, help me get over my general proclivity to inacitivity.

Margherita--I was hoping this didn't come across as heavy-handed and didactic. It's not something I like to do, and it's not written as a deliberate indictment of anyone. If I employ any "method" I just usually find myself with too many thoughts in my head, and when they all connect on a given subject and won't shaddup, I just let 'em out.

A.W., you remind me of myself sometimes--kinda all over the place! *wink-n-hugs*

Ida...*chuckle* I just love your dry, insightful wit! (Y'remind me of kin when ya say stuff like that! *laughing*) And with my family tree--I don't mean to frighten you--but it could be...*laughing*

Sharon? Well yes, and I'll bet you know the scenario that spawned this'n quite well too. I'll tell ya the story later, I don't wanna ruind this veddy serious take on the situation.

amusemi--thank you so much, and if I never told you, I do love your pen name very much. I think I had a similar e mail addy name a long time ago...

kaile--and ya made me "grin goofy"--"inbetween", although some consider it acceptable, it's still a slang, and although I love utilizing some forms of slang (especially as a pun) this time, in this poem, it does seem out of place. So kudo's to you--not only do you have laughing eyes, you are eagle-eyed!

I think I need to find an online dictionary and stick with it. Wiktionary isn't really my first choice of source.

Thanks all for reading, and please know I'm not writing at anyone--which is why I hate writing didactic poetry. Sometimes I even cross my own lines. This one was a little heavy on the condemnation, which wasn't my intent. I would tell ya the story, but maybe I'll end up writing it as a sequel/explanation to this'n.

Love to all. With my humble gratitude.

Well that depends...if yer tossing the dice in a game of Craps, you could call it playing the odds.

Far be it for me to tell you what's good for you, though.

I suspect you're probably younger than me, too. Right now I just feel exhausted. You're prolly a lot more focused than I am as well. So no worries, hon.

Yes, Karen, Sharing the same family tree might not be so far fetched as one might think. Something about you reminds me very much of my own family. That weird, off-the-wall sense of humor (rather unique to the family)and so many of your mannerisms. You wouldn't happen to have any Clarks in your family would you? Same general location too.

I've seen it both ways, silence and confession.  Toss-up I guess...  I really like this one and understand it, oh too well!
Straight to the miscellanea file...

Speaking about focus, would one think to check the library box before announcing to the world?   Check!  Now I've got your thread.  Keep stringing those words, serenity pie.  We love them.
