We are the trees
We are the trees
You and I
grinning in the sunshine
roaring at the night.
We are the trees
We are the trees
You and I
clinging to the riverbank
falling slowly into rank.
We are the trees
We are the trees
You and I
Growing and going nowhere.

ah   as the blind man said, upon receiving sight, "I see men as trees walking"
::smiles::   Now, like Adam, I must go hide among them.  Thank you for stimulating my dendrite

Love, love, love this! Beauty in vanity, what a concept, one I always enjoy exploring in my thoughts. It's like a flower in a field that lives and dies unnoticed, unseen. What was the point? My hope is that there is a point, and that somehow that flower achieved immortality in vanity, giving hope for unseen pain and lonely struggle.

I love your poem and all it conjures up for me.  If I were a tree of my own choice, I think I would choose to be either an Acacia xanthophloea (fever tree is its most usual common name) or an Erythrina lysistemon (a coral tree).

I also have often embraced the dilemma that Garapan raised.  I find it sad, and so wish that every little flower could be noticed and celebrated by people (being a "people", myself).  However, I believe that each little flower is there for a purpose and although the human race may not be involved, that each little flower's life is fulfilling and fulfilled.
