When the cold creeps in
it’s time to close
each and every door
to prevent the breeze of past
from disturbing the present.

But only love can cut the reel
of what was played, re-played
and I left my love there today
as a parting gift.

I tried to package anger
and tag it with resentment
but it didn’t sit quite right
so I thought to throw it out
because otherwise I’d carry it
for the rest of my life.

Yet of life I don’t much care
whether one year, two, or three
because my sight grows dimmer now
and I know to look at just today
and not back then or when.

One day you’ll find me, love;
I know it wasn’t today
and should I perchance repeat
again, again, again,
each day will be just one day
that love stayed away!

Hello, Honey. This poem touched me deeply ~ as do all your poems! However, this one struck an especially strident cord in my heart.

"When the cold creeps in
it’s time to close
each and every door
to prevent the breeze of past
from disturbing the present."

~ May love find you again and kiss away the cold.

Giving you a warm, loving hug,
Linda

Thanks, Linda.  Yes, today was a last and final goodbye to the past and unfortunately also to an adoring pet.  That's the part that hurts the most so one day at a time is all I can manage - just not managing too well yet.

Love

That is a lovely poem Helen although a little sad and wistful but don't lose faith

my dear. You have made the first step to success by throwing the anger out. I feel

for you Helen and hope that love is just around the corner. Good Luck.  Love

Lindsay

Thanks to all and, Lindsay, perhaps love is around the corner but for now it's enough to know that it's within!
