A Fallen Star
by Linda L. Dowd

+*+*+*+*+*+
A star had lost its twinkle,
then it fell down from the sky.
It landed in a wishing well,
and soon began to cry.

Fairies heard a soulful sound,
that echoed through the dell.
They gathered ‘round the source of it,
and peered down in the well.

In the depths of darkness,
glowed the faintest bit of light.
It waned as they were looking on,
that dark and fateful night.

The star soon saw their faces,
that rimmed the top of well.
~ Had he risen up to heaven,
or fallen down to hell?

The fairies gathered spider webs,
and made a silken rope.
They lowered it down to the star,
and gave their friend some hope.

The whimpering mote of stardust,
clung tight to silver strands.
His cries of joy and thankfulness,
were heard about the lands.

The fairies summoned up the winds,
to fan the spark of light.
And soon the star was twinkling,
and lighting up the night.

The zephyr grew much stronger,
and swept the star up high.
He beamed in his happiness,
to be back home in sky.

It shone upon the fairy land,
sending love and rays of light.
For now he was their guiding star,
and would shine down every night.
+*+*+*+*+*+

This is a nice picture, and a nice hopefull poem.

Now if that were always the case for fallen stars.

I like your work on this poem.

Dear Linda - I loved trailing down your words because I landed back on my feet!  If a star can fall and rise again albeit with some help then surely I can too and that's the thought you've left me with.  Thank you.

And you, my dear Linda Angelo Terrestre, do this star justice by becoming a guiding star yourself. And how grateful I am for you, as I witness your sharing of light all the time here ...

People usually say that fairy tales are fit only for children - they would be more correct in saying that fairy tales are too good for children

this word is probably so overused, but this is just...nice, and these words are some of the nicest:
