I WON’T BE A VICTIM – WELL, NOT FOR LONG ANYWAY
4 October 2007

Like a rain-drenched cat
I will scurry inside
where it is warm and safe
and groom myself dry
and with regained dignity
I will sit on the window sill
and glare cat-power
at the rain.

Oh, Diana, you do "glare cat-power at the rain!" ... and let them perceive TIGER-power! I love this bit of courage and determination, it is very empowering!

This is the attitude! I think I would not like to live alone in a house now though ...

Love and hugs.

It's difficult to relax and feel safe after one burglary. After multiple break-ins? sigh, that's like climbing Everest. I am glad you settled back into your home and are writing regularly, not letting the intruders win it all.

Dianna I'm sorry to hear of your burglary

but having a watch dog is such an enormous

benefit, not only as a companion but a great detterant for the would be thieves.

All the best and have a great day.  Love

Lindsay

Diana,

I'm so glad you were not involved
and left needing physical support;
I do so appreciate not only your
cat's eye, but the owl's view as well;
would it be that I could welcome you
into the safety that I know.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful, warm, kind concern.  I do so love these blue pages with their lovely poets.

Giggles, Ida . . . it took me a while to get the tiger courage, and sometimes (well, often) it slips.     I don't live alone, I have cat and a (blind) doglet!

Yes, Kacy, the multiple break-ins(dozens, but not many when I was there, thank goodness - or more worrying, in some ways) over many years is the scary bit - as is the current crime rate, though my son and I and some others, through Sector Policing Forum, are working very hard at getting the crime rate down in the area.

Thanks, Lindsay for the good advice - 3 problems though, 1) I do have a doglet, but she is blind; 2) if I had a watch dog it would be even more stressful for me (especially as 6 dogs were poisoned in the area a week ago) because I would (at least hope to) jump in between the intruders and my dog to keep my dog safe; 3) I can't afford another animal.

However, I do have a watch cat, who doesn't attack the intruders thank goodness.  He has learnt to hide whenever there have been break-ins, but on several occasions he has alerted me to suspicious noises by growling.  He actually "caught" an intruder once.  It was a Saturday afternoon in broad daylight when an intruder had entered my property (before I had palisade fencing) and was hiding in my garden forest.  Tigger heard him and saw him and growled, alerting me to the intruder who didn't see me.  I watched him for a short while, then set the burglar alarm off and he sauntered off the property.  By the time (just a couple of minutes later) the warden arrived, the intruder was hiding behind the scout hall across the road, presumably waiting for the security company to come and go so that he could come back, still not knowing that anyone was home.  I told the warden and he caught the intruder, brought him to me to identify him, which I did.  However, I didn't lay a charge as he hadn't actually broken into the house, but he didn't come back.

Thank you Karilea.  Yes, I was very lucky on the last 3 occasions that I wasn't physically involved - except my throat was sore for about 5 days afterwards in each case - from all the screaming!  - giggles - however, I have been physically involved in the past - but not seriously - so far I haven't been raped or shot or stabbed, but I have had my handbag pulled from me on my driveway (twice) and I have had hands round my throat and I have been tied up, but that (also 3 poems) is another story.  I am not sure whether I posted those poems.  I will look up and see.  If I haven't I will give my burglaries a break for a while and then I will post those 3 later.

Karilea, you did actually welcome me into your safety - I am very comforted to know that you are nice and safe.  I, too, am a lot safer than I was at the time of burglaries numbers 1 and 2 as mentioned above, because I now have very good burglar guards on most of my windows now - I couldn't afford to do them all, but hope to do the rest later.

Almost every time I have a burglary, I add a little more to my security.

My security is pretty good now - not perfect, but eventually I hope to be able to afford quite a few more security measures.
