The rooks are breaking bread within the mist
On the table of the valley
Their celebration slaps the ale of their bawdy song
Upon the wooded air
To cant upon the morning their boastful feasting
Old as time, blackened breasts rosy in the rising sun
And songs as brackish as the rasping marsh
They sprang from.
Black to the root but hearts not so
What fledgling mother’s love fed and thrust upon the world
This rookery of roughness, toughness in the wood
To stand upon a branch, swollen limbed and thrusting from
The brine of creation, an elation of sound
Upon the day.

It seems my message of "Sleep first, then send the poem" was sent too late!

I am so happy to find somebody else who finds that ecstacic caw beautiful.  I loved every word of this.  Thank you for loving crows.

Your sleeplessness gifted us with another beautiful poetic offering. Thank you!

Impressive!

Thank you Diana and Margherita, *grin. As soon as I posted it I went back to bed and practiced relaxing my toes. Next thing I knew it was morning... the real morning.
Yes kin, I do love crows. If I believed in past lives(which I don't), I think I might have been a crow or a raven - I feel such a connection to them.
I'm so glad you both enjoyed it. It's good to share one's passions.

This is excellent! I am also a raven lover, in spite of having been 'abused' by their antics more than once!
Again, welcome to these blue pages,
and thank you for your comments on my recent poem 'what the heart hears.'

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. I've had more than one conversation with a raven, and with a  rookery of crows but 400 feet from my house, I have little need for an alarm clock.
One day I hope to see a white raven. I've only seen them in photos - rare they are, apparitions like reverse shadows of their genetic kin.

Looking forward to exploring your poetry in the archives. What a treasure trove for a newbie!

Hi Lynda,
I love crows too. People don't understand how intelligent they are. Beautiful poem.

Thank you Ida,

I'm really looking forward to getting to know your work through these pages.

Yes they are intelligent - and courageous, saucy, beautiful, vociferous... all the qualities I aspire to...hehe...

I'm glad you got your sleep, kin!  You see it worked!     Next time, you fall asleep sooner if you listen to Great-Auntie Di!

Thank you Vandana...

Kin... Being the same age as you, the 'great-ness' of our friendship has more to do with our spirit and your wisdom. You may claim one year, but that is nothing in the cosmic scheme of things.
lol.
I bow before both.
