This journey seems forever,
an endless odyssey, a trek
into the realm of utter fantasy.
I should make a fire and rest awhile,
for the wind blows snow-bitter cold,
and I have gone many miles this day.

I have been alone before
at a thousand night camps,
standing, kneeling, gazing,
drawn to the fire's dancing flames.
Awed, I watch the play of shadows
and distant lights trembling in the sky
and high, wind-blown, frozen clouds.
I still remember quite clearly
the fiery trails of meteors,
the falling stars I wished upon
in the vanity of my own desires.

For you I sojourn in this dark place,
lost and alone on this wayward voyage.
For you I endure these empty nights.
These fragile memories I carry
are but a few mementos of lost days,
charcoal fragments of a burned out fire,
an awful weight to drag me down.

I rise to walk again,
adrift as I listen to the wind
whispering in the trees.
In a way, you'll always be with me,
your being and your essence
in my thoughts, around me, everywhere,
and I still feel your presence
for just a little while
as I walk for another hour,
another mile.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

A wondrous, melancholic write.
