Then whispers a dream to make me believe
he’s been there and so can know
the four-footed lady is quite okay
and her friend is the same as before.

But ‘twas just a dream and I am a-feared
dreams like people don’t tell the truth
and creep into my brain covered like trees
in the throes of the winter cold.

They must be covered, you see, you see,
because afraid they are of a woman’s eyes
when alighting on the bare and exposed
essential manner of being.

Instead of a comfort the tears erupted
in the petal pick deed of believe or not
and so of this day it’s not going okay
until I decide to believe.

Then whispers my heart, “Believe, believe”
but the message perhaps like poetry
read and discarded, forgotten,
in the furtherance of human affairs
that leaves out the true essential!

wow, beautiful stuff. very much enjoyed.

I like how it begins seemingly in mid-sentence

"How do the angels get to sleep, when the devil leaves the porchlight on?" -- Tom Waits, 'Mr. Siegal'

I can't think of you to leave out the "true essential", dear Helen! Your heart guides you ... and sometimes dreams are divine messages, don't you forget that.

Another thought provoking poem, beautifully written!

Love and hugs.

Thank you poet friends!  I am inclined to believe that dreams are messages but then sometimes I'm not inclined that way especially when the message seems unproved.  I am, however, also aware of the benefits of belief without proof and I suppose it's up to me to reap them.  I will one day!
