Not on the fence but firmly entrenched
in the certainty of her truth
she appears to recline fully at ease
on the bed of her own making.

‘tis the purr of a cat some would believe
but a nocturnal animal she
tosses the day away in her way
in favour of nightly forays.

And she slithers and slides, messes up mind,
and makes of her dream a nightmare
for reasons she cannot decide
when asleep to the knowledge inside.

There’s water and food and innumerable fools
and warmth when the heart despairs
packaged and wrapped with intent
to spin her away in denial.

So she spins and she turns and she whirls
to build and release, build and release,
energetic and compacted truth
and it shoots into the atmosphere
to land at the feet of the unaware.

Like mist it billows and swells
seven times more than the start
then sinks like a useless endeavour
back into the deep inside.

‘tis the touch of a gentle hand
and the dew of a woman’s essence
that litters the ground in winter’s avowal
to keep the certainty of her truth
forever on the ice of denial.

So she spins and she turns and she whirls
for this is the manner of soul
when turned out of bed into the cold
of life as it is today!

Hmmm, will have to think about this one, read and re-read, I like it, perhaps I need a slap in the face, to get to the bones of it. Kinda feline but kinda not, hmmm... I could do this all day !!

Thanks for the think.

life ain't easy OLIAS.  We've got to think to make it be and the same with poetry.

I know my meanings sometimes aren't clear but where would we be without the mystery?

Thank you so much for reading and for commenting. I'm anxious to get to some reading myself very soon as I have a lot to catch up on.

I think this is very poetic but must admit that I am also rather bound up in the "mystery."

Ida - Perhaps our life force is nothing but confined energy and anything confined must at some time rebel.  So it spins to release what must be known but, of course, never is known in the world as it is today.  Some can feel the energy but never is it seen until it manifests in something physical.

Thanks so much for reading.

Yes. This was a little hard to sort out. But it's nice to be teased, lol!

Helen,

Wonderful reading, beautiful lady.  I have read it out loud a few times and the words just roll so beautifully off my tongue.

I think sometimes that we think we need to understand everything.  Sometimes, it is nice to simply feel.  Life is not a dot-to-dot that forms a beautiful picture when we die.  It doesn't all come together in a nice package.  I think we leave this world wondering ... just wondering.

I love how you make me think - and no offense to those who previously said that they did not understand this poem.  I was not commenting on your comments - just how I feel inside.

Thank you all so much for your comments.  Very much appreciated and, Alison, you are a dear.

When it comes to "understanding" I am reminded of the ex-Rhodesian Prime Minister who said, "Not in my lifetime".  What he was referring to did come about in his lifetime.  I suppose what that means is that we can never know and understand but maybe it's the "feel" that tells us what we need to know albeit far from the whole.
