Angelo shoots hoops
well past midnight.

The thump-thump-thump
dulls his senses.

He’s all alone on the court.
He doesn’t have to think
about what’s going down at home.

Thump-thump-thump.

Yes, the thump-thump-thump does sound like a heart beating. It's a sad thing for Angelo, being out there all alone. He can’t go home.

Shooting hoops is a good way for kids to survive in bad neighborhoods.
