A Sudden Realization

A sudden realization
Has appeared in my mind
These feelings I have for you,
No longer am I blind

At first I did not see
How blatantly obvious it all really was
A slow, burning desire
Creeping up deep from my soul

Sub-consciously I’ve always known,
My love for you is homegrown
Until recently however,
It’s always been hidden behind

Hidden behind a curtain,
I was afraid to pull back
And let these feelings flow freely
To show you I really do care

This tale I will tell,
Is of a time so long ago,
It consists of nothing but memories,
And a deep longing feeling

It started with a phone call,
At three in the A.M.
I thought it was odd,
We hadn’t talked in oh, so long

We hit it off
Right away
But there was a catch,
You had a boyfriend

You said things weren’t working,
And you needed to get away from him
We kept talking,
And these feelings; they grew

2 weeks later it was finally official,
A couple we were, happy as can be
Talking until 4 in the morning
About all we had seen

Our first kiss on the street corner,
I kissed your nose,
Instead of your lips,
So embarrassed, I missed your lips

Those days at the bus stop
Waiting for a while,
Arm in arm, hand in hand
We had a lot to reconcile

Things took a turn,
Down a very bad road
This bond that we had,
We thought was broken for good

We got back together
In a few short weeks
This would continue,
For an entire year

Lately, we’ve been talking
About all that we had
It seemed so perfect,
But what went wrong?

It got to the point,
We never hung out,
I never saw your face,
I couldn’t take this any more

Ever since it finally ended,
We’ve always wondered
“What if…What if…?”
What if it had worked, for that much longer?

This sudden realization,
It’s been so long,
I’ve hidden it for a while
I must confess, you need to know

I love you so
Through thick and thin,
The good, the bad
You know I’m here

This love I have
It will not die,
Always burning
Deep inside

Sometimes the "sudden" realization comes late ... but one never knows.

This is a lovely write of longing.

Love,

I'd wrap her in velcro and stick her to my side for good.

Haha, nice metaphor!  Yea...we're still not sure though if we want to be a serious couple right now.  We're dating casually and think we're just gonna keep it like that for a little bit.  We're more than friends but not like a steady boyfriend/girlfriend couple.  Not really sure what to call it, sort of like friends with benefits...but that doesn't do justice, it's more than that because we both love each other more than anyone could ever see.
