racing the shadows

i see him on a gray horse
high up in the clouds;
he is racing the shadows of the sun.
can you not see him
as you lie on your back
in the summer meadow?
he is the one running to shower you
with summer rain and love.

A wonderful way, dear Alison, to connect in love with those who moved on but still live within our hearts and minds.

I understand it too. Love the image of the meadow that allows the vision and the shower of love.

Love,
Margherita

I can see it!  Wonderful!  Before I read the end, I was reminded of the sculpture on Stone Mountain in Georgia.   The horsemen raced through the clouds just as you depicted.  Neat!

Oh, Alison, I do, I do, I do!  And I see him and the gray horse, bonded as one, in body and spirit and love, galloping across the sky in long elegant grey-legged strides.  Oh, Alison, thank you so very much for this.  The tears are running down my face for so many reasons - the warmth of your gift to me; your understanding of what a gift it is to me; the unexpectedness of the gift; the sadness at the passing of your brother, the sadness of the passing of Flicka; the beauty of the images in your poem; the beauty of the poem as a whole, but I am smiling too - and it is a slow, small smile, but it is a very deep one overflowing with gratitude for all we have had and all we still have.  I don't know how to thank you for this!

I loved Aziza's poetry too, but I didn't know that you were her!  I saw Kate's message to you in response to one of your poems, and she mentioned that she noticed that you had changed your name, but she recognised you from your hating lumpy oatmeal.  I was going to ask either you or her who you used to be, but I don't need to now.

Thank you again, Alison, for this wonderful gift.

Another example of love, beauty, and compassion that is not virtual, but real right here at Passion's Paradise.

May I thank you sweet Ally for this wonderful gift to a dear friend.

You have a pure heart.

Rich

Ida,

Thank you.  This is one of the first poems that I ever wrote.  It came from the heart - and when I lie on my back in a grassy field and look at the clouds, I always see my brother.

Love,

What a wonderful response.  I am glad that my words evoked an image in your mind ... and then you shared it so I could see and smile too.  Beautiful touch from a beautiful woman.

Dear Diana,

This poem is now yours to tuck away in your back pocket.  We can lie together in a large meadow, filled with wildflowers and gaze up at the clouds as they drift by.  Together, we can find Flicka and Robby and share our stories.

I first experienced death when I was five.  Our horse, Rondo, died.  Rondo had been part of all of the children's lives.  There were five of us children and I am the baby.  We would climb on him, wrap our arms around his legs, sit under him and make roads.  He always loved us and took care of us - and we took care of him by bringing him a jaw breaker candy every Saturday.  They are round, colorful hard sugar candy.  He would suck that for hours, head bobbing up and down .. just a horse in heaven.

I understand your loss - and my heart goes out to you.

With love,
Alison
