Yes, she is beautiful, intelligent
and successful in so many ways.
But I think I am most proud of her
when she takes the time
to feed that old, stray cat,
when the opossums
take food from her hand
or a bird finds her shoulder
a safe place to land.
When every child in the neighborhood
benefits from her kindness and generosity.
The daughter who joins her mother
in a good cry over a sad movie
and yet, is a strong, outspoken
independent woman
who always tells the truth
(to your face)
and would do whatever was neccessary
to protect her family.
Word to the wise,
do not criticize her husband.
Not a smart thing to do.
She was lucky enough
to marry the man she deserves.

I wrote this poem as a birthday gift for my daughter, Gina. My only surviving child.
Her birthday is in Feb. and I plan to put it in her birthday card. The best part about this poem is it is all true.

This is so lovely, Ida, in a million ways - well, so I thought until you said, "your only surviving child" - yes the poem is still so lovely of course, but I feel so very, very sad about the rest.

Big warm hugs to you and your daughter and all her animal friends

Thank you,
Olia-so nice to meet you.
Debra-I had a feeling right from the start that we are going to be great friends.
Diana-Yes, I lost my first born son many years ago, he was only three. My oldest daughter passed away at 34 with cancer, leaving a ten year old daughter. life has
certainly been difficult at times. Maybe that was why I was given Gina and three wonderful granddaughters and the cutest, sweetest great granddaughter you ever saw.
Nothing can replace a lost child or ever heal that wound but we learn to appreciate the blessings we are given. You are such a
sweet lady and remind me of my daughter when you talk about your animal friends.
Kacy- I certainly like the way you think too.
I try to soak up as much of your wisdom as possible.
                Love you all,

Yes, Diana, My son was very young when he died but my daughter, Danielle was quite a remarkable person as well. I have written about her and one day when I feel I can handle it, I will post something.

Reading, in your replies, your life, makes me treasure so much more, my own. I've, and I, sometimes think mine has been/is harsh, but I know better especially when I read the experiences of others. Still, I guess all is relative; but inside I know better.

Your trials help make ME a better person, my friend...enjoyed the read.

Dear Ida, how wonderful and courageous of you to share so much with us. I bet your amazing daughter takes after you, and is so proud of you as well.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your son, and daughter. That kind of heartache just seems so unfathomable, and yet here you are, lifting us with your selflessness.

You are a very special angel Ida,
which I am so blessed to know.
