This is set during the period when Juliet was separated from Romeo who had been exiled to Mantua for murder.

Juliet's Lament

Why is Time late
And so long in coming?
Unbreechable walls
Hold back her hand.
And senseless hate
Imprisons loves' longing,
My Summer love
Dwells in Mantua's land.

Oh the cruel fate
That bore us divided,
A choice is now forced
Between home and heart.
Vast space separates
Two souls now decided,
And life seems completed
Before it can start.

Oh would that the Adige
Carried me seaward,
The heart of Verona
Bleed me as a tear.
Dark shadow and nothing
Adorn as corona
This sorrowing soul
And the love it holds dear.

Oh Romeo, Romeo
Wherefore art thou?
What mischievious malice
Has torn us apart?
The Devil's own hand
Has prepared us this chalice
And a poison that pierces
Has stricken these hearts.

[Juliet weeps ]

End

Thank you, fellow writer. The ending hints towards their eventual fate of death by poison and dagger.

Love can be beautiful you know...lol

and yes you just knew how to get my attention, with the title...

still a great love story, even through death, love remains, through the written word, telling their stories...long after they are gone...
powerful!

VERY fine!

I am particularly fond of:

"Oh the cruel fate
That bore us divided,
A choice is now forced
Between home and heart.
Vast space separates
Two souls now decided,
And life seems completed
Before it can start."

serious, sustained applause for this 'penning'!

Ahh, dear Garapan, you conveyed the pain of Juliet's yearning heart so beautifully! And all the hearts of the world separated by distance can relate ...

Very intense and very well written.

Love,
Margherita

Thank you both, Marg & Secondhanddp. I am writing a series on the subject and wanted to test the waters with this piece. Glad you liked it. I understand her sorrow because I am also separated by more than miles from the one I love best.

Yo XGarapanX,

This works okay, it's coming right along.

It would be easier to read using a plain Navy Blue font.

Well, Ms. Kaile, I have the fortune (or mis) of having had experienced many such hopeful promises with a dead end for a conclusion, so it helps me to be mindful of the loss of possibility with it's painful, tragic waste.
