THE TIGER SLEEPS TONIGHT
21 November 2006

In your latest spot on the corner of the bed,
chin upturned,
as though you know its effect
- for there is a smile on the face of the tiger -
you wake for a moment’s bath
then back to your dream world
while only your magnificent stripes move.

Now I'm thinking that this, feline, in the bed is perhaps a sweet little kitty kat, taking a nap and minding his own business, not a much larger, striped version who might wake up in the middle of the night looking around for a quick snack... ! ...

My cat Meow Meow starts running all over me in the wee hours of the morn when he feels like having me wake up from a perfectly good sleep to let him out for some fresh air. When he's done with his business, we can usually find him teasing the dog next door through the fence so that the pooch will bark at him for an hour or so, keeping half the neighborhood awake until he comes scrathcing on my screen window because he's bored now, and wants to come back inside so he can wake me up later, meowing for something to eat.

Yeah, fun stuff. I'd have a million cats if I could, not! Three is plenty.

You be careful now Diana. The last time I checked, tigers like meat. You know, gazelles, water buffalo... OWLS...

OMG!

Thanks for the poem!
It was GRRRrrreeeaaattT!

Hello Owl, very good painting of a nonchalant feline, I would so much like it would be a tiger...

Enjoyed your poem.

Thanks, Richy!  Yes this is about Tigger, my tabby cat.  He is thrilled that you like the poem.  As he modestly admits, he likes it himself.  He and I loved the stories about Meow Meow.  What are the names of the other two?  Thanks for the caution, but I doubt that a tiger would eat this owl - you see dogs don't bite me (except for one, and that was a genuine mistake, the poor darling got such a fright, I had to calm him and his owner down - I wrote a poem about the incident called Almost As Elated As The First Time I Fell Off A Horse - I don't know if I have posted it here yet).  Either I taste bad or they all know I love every one of them.  Whilst I realise that tigers are not dogs, I would presume, nevertheless, that the same would apply.

Thank you Yann!  I would love to have a real tiger too, but one that would be a real friend of Tigger's and play with him and not hurt, frighten or eat him.

This is such a true feline picture. I should know, I have 6 of them. Cheetah, Soleil. Molly, Mason, O'Malley and Oliver.
All rescued from one dire circumstance or another. Each one has a totally different personality.

Thank you, Ida - and thank you for knowing that I would ask you what their names are and/or honouring them by telling me anyway.  Does Cheetah speak Afrikaans and Zulu?  Soleil, French?  Molly and O'Malley, Irish Gaelic?  Mason and Oliver, English?  I can certainly imagine, as well as the different languages they probably speak, they all have different personalities.  Please give them all hugs and kisses from Auntie Di.  Tigger, Daisy (my Maltese Poodle), and I say thank you so very much for saving them from their various circumstances.
