I need a Cape Cod fix
I need to breathe that salty air
I need some fingers of mysterious ventures
Running through my hair

I need to wet my lips with grassy shores
And whiff the scent of sea
Lift a goblet to my mouth
And fill my head with ecstasy

I need some glassy beads that dangle
In the glow of morning dreams
I need the ghosts that haunt the taverns
And revolve in lighthouse beams

I need the berry bogs of Falmouth
Need the mist on Buzzard’s bay
Need the little quiet pleasures
At the ending of the day

If this morning were the ending
If this sunset were the last
I would join a poet friend
And I would have myself a blast

Cause a poet needs a poet
When immersed in pools of strife
And a poet is the only friend
Who understands your life

I need to talk to someone else who sees
The things that fill my eyes
And knows that all the day revolves around
The beauty of the skies

Need someone who nurtures holly trees
And feeds the winter birds
I need to hear profound conclusions
In the mixture of their words

I need to spend some time with poets
Need to bask in senseless dreams
Need to eat aesthetic notions
And to drink of soulful streams

I need something more than CNN
To turn my rusty wheels
Need to know somebody understands
How true compassion feels

Need to sharpen up my word bank
Need to dust my feathered quill
Need some Massachusetts flavor
In the taste of morning chill

And a little bit of tall tale
In the history of the dead
Need the grey of clapboard houses
With their shutters painted red

Need some dunes of shifting sand
Along a long and looping shore
Need the quaintness and the cuteness
Of a little country store

I need to paint some wooden rafters
Throw some varnish in the mix
I need a little bit of laughter
Need a Cape Cod fix!

Totally awesome! So many relevant sentiments and "everyman" expressions in this work. Great poem.

And I, dear Liz ... needed "this" poet fix!

It is sooooo wonderful to read your softly flowing words, so full of colour, so full of memories, so full of your lovely poetic talent.

Now ... I think I need a "treasure hunt", lol!

Thanks for the beautiful visuals, Liz, and the terrific memories they brought to mind.

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit

This is wonderful and you took me on your longing for the Cape.  I'd love to go there - and I hope that you get your time with your poet friend.  You wrote a poem that I fell in love with.

B-oooutefull!  I'm game if you are?  I also need a Cape Cod fix at the Christmastree Shop in the worst way.
A little bit of Nanners, a lobster fest, and some wonderful friends would do me well right about now too.  Oh this brought back such wonderful memories of you all, and our dearest of dears, Sy.  Missing you and sending you a cyberhug dear lady.

I don't know Cape Cod, didn't know Sy, haven't met any of you in person (except Honeybunch), but what I DO know is that I love this poem, and understand that there was a PIP gathering with Sy at Cape Cod and that we have lost Sy recently, and I feel from this poem, that I know you, Cape Cod, Sy, all of PIP, and I most certainly know that what you said so perfectly that "a poet needs a poet", or if not a poet, as I once said in a poem, somebody with poetry in his soul.

Thank you for my wonderful respite at Cape Cod.  I will revisit your poem in my Elizabeth Santos file from time to time, to refresh my life.

I think some of my fondest memories are those when gathered together with other poets...although not all the same ones you have been honored to share time with but I find those times to be some of the best.

And you are correct, no one  understands more than another poet, Liz.

I hope you get the chance to visit again.

You make everything sound wonderful, but this is especially inviting.

It's wonderful to read you again.

I hear you need a Cape Cod fix..
Mid summer is the best
The dunes are warm; the sun is bright
Come up and join the fest!

We'll hit the beach and get a tan
And see some summer stock.
Enjoy some sunsets o'er the sea
Stay up all night and talk.

There'll be no rafters here to paint
Village People are a must.
So pack those bags dear Lizzy gal
And then hop on the bus!

See you VERY soon..

I've never been to that area, but after reading your poem, now I NEED IT!!!
However, I'd settle for time in a midwestern B&B with some poet friends also!  Or a stable with some poet friends...

Very nice done!

I so enjoyed reading this, and the way you captured the Cape as well as the friendship you share.
My family lives in Maine and I've been to Cape Cod a couple of times.
I recognize many of the places you mention which makes your poetry all the more enjoyable.

Have a great time and thanks for sharing the magic of the Eastern Seaside.

Liz, your poem brought back so many memories of the Cape and how much I miss visiting there.

But I now love the lakes and the mountains and the fresh, crisp air of NH.

I hope you get to visit and I hope Mysteria can visit also. What a blast you gals will have. ;-)  Give my love to Nan.

hugs, Marti
