Weeping At Walmart

It's been hot for a week,
but the ground is not yet dry
from the prior over abundance
of rain.
So, it doesn't explain
the sorrow
of those new, young trees
planted fresh
in the islands of the parking lot
at the improved Walmart
Superstore.

It's as if they've been witnesses,
watching intently,
assessing the weekday
and the weekend shoppers
who are mindless,
heedless,
material...
Bent on nothing
except for want and need,
and pretending polite civility
as they ignore all other souls,
denying their own desire
to see
and their real need
to be seen.

So many people,
so blind,
unperceptive,
lonelier than the trees
standing isolated
on their Island prisons...
yet, it is the trees
who weep.

If I were a tree, I would refuse to grow in a WalMart environment.
An interesting write, XGarapanX.

Aha! You have the powers of observation of both nature and human 'beans'. ~ and that ability will take you far as a poet!

Hello! Welcome aboard the pip ship! I was very intrigued by your debuting poem! ~ and I like things that intrigue my imagination and peak my interest!

Giving you a warm, welcoming pip hug,

Earth Angel

P.S. Perhaps you could go hug the trees and make them feel better! While you're at it, you could hug a few of those Wal-Mart patrons as well! lol

Thank you. Earth Angel, and thank you, Midnightsun (hope I spelled them correctly). I appreciate you stopping in. And thanks for the Welcome E.A.

Yes, Midnight, that is exactly what I thought as I viewed the situation... "Interesting". I couldn't imagine why these healthy, young, well watered new trees which should have been long past any shock of transplantation should appear so droopy and heavy laden with such burdensome cares, so my imagination made a story for them.

Welcome to Pip!

I could feel the tears of these trees ... but they will be very much loved in time (maybe for the shadow they provide ...), they are a precious gift.

Insightful, lovely write!

Love,
Margherita

I have been working at walmart part time.
I have noticed that the handicap spaces are being abused.
Most of those people getting out of their cars walk better than I do.
Great poem by the way.

LOL! I understand, rad. Maybe a poem should be written about those people to cast some illumination on the problem.
