Sally and Felix
take three-year-old Angelo
out to Fairmont Park
for a picnic.

They park the car,
and open the door for Angelo.

Angelo won’t get out of the car.

He doesn’t like the looks
of that green stuff
growing out of the ground.

He’s afraid that stuff
just might reach up
and grab him.

It takes a while
to settle the kid down,
make him a little more comfortable
with the grass.

Bobby

Those who grow up with it under their feet take it for granted
that grass is friendly, but your words show us nothing can be assumed.
Good snapshot, Bobby.

Laughing because it reminds me of a time at Pizza Hut when my daughter was around that age.  She was looking out the window and was really afraid, she kept saying something about a "giraffe" or some such thing. To this day we laugh about it and wonder what it was.  Poor Angelo.

Thanks dear Midnitesun,

I'm pleased this one worked for you.

We don't have lawnmowers here.  It's one of the great bonuses of life in the hood.

Love Bobby

I once had a cat who had never been outside then one day it got out somehow and it was hilarious watching the cat trying to walk on the grass. After that I let her out sometimes but she never did become an "outdoor cat."

Thanks dear Ida,

For the story of your cat.  I never became an outdoor (grass) cat either.  I don't like to see it.  It brings back bad memories of being forced to cut it.
