Lost Love
by Linda L. Dowd

As specks of gold glittered in an ebony sky,
I dreamed of my lost love who bade me good-bye.
On the emerald shore of a fair lowlands loch,
While baaing white woollies, around us did flock.

The heather did sway in the earthy, spring breeze.
And the day had been one of both harmony and ease.
As we lay among flowers, I soon saw in his eyes,
A far-away look ~ to my chagrin and surprise.

His demeanor had changed, in what seemed but an instant.
He became cool and aloof ~ and ever so distant.
I queried the reason and he then did impart,
That another fair lassie had captured his heart.

It felt as tho’ nor’winds had sucked out my soul.
I was shattered inside and feared losing control.
But somehow I knew that I’d forever be fine,
For the spirit within me would continue to shine.

In lieu of protesting and pounding his chest,
I proclaimed that our parting wouldst be for the best.
‘Twas he who then showed his utter surprise,
As he saw the strength in my steady, green eyes.

I turned and bestowed him a sweet buss on the cheek.
He appeared rather puzzled and suddenly meek.
I bade him farewell, as I rose from the grass,
Saying, “May you be happy with your new bonnie lass.”

I strode ‘cross the heather with my head held high,
Which belied the sadness and tears I did cry.
As I stifled the rise of a wailing banshee,
The sun broke thru’ clouds and shone upon me.

As specks of gold glittered in an ebony sky,
I dreamed of my lost love who bade me good-bye.
On the emerald shore of a fair lowlands loch,
While baaing white woollies around us did flock.

Well, that was very sweet and smart of you.
I hope his "bonnie new lass" gained 300 lbs. and grew a wart on her nose and another right where you kissed him. Just
having a little fun.

The great Mr. Yeats must surely be smiling upon the hearing of this ballad of the heart and soul! I loved every second spent in the sight and sound of it all!

"Twas he who then showed his utter surprise,
As he saw the strength in my steady, green eyes" - This is my favorite part!  Yes, us Pisces tend to be emotional, but then find the strength somewhere!  Can I think about this and change it to "my blue eyes"??????   I may not be Irish - but I can certainly get my ire up when need be     eally enjoyed this!

Earth Angel, being a guy, I shouldn’t say this; however I did enjoy the poem.

Oh, Linda dear, you caught that awful moment so well and I love your reaction, Lioness!

Now, aren't we Pisces girls supposed to be compassionate and loving?   I had such fun also with the replies!

I second your attitude, Angelo terrestre!
We stand tall, even when we hurt!

Love and hugs.
