Sally and Felix
get invited to University
to hear Angelo defend
his thesis in mathematics.

It’s a formality
that must be preformed.

Angelo has already
earned his PhD.

It’s all way above
Sally and Felix’s head.
They don’t understand any of it.

They clap loudly when he’s done,
that’s their boy you know.

After the defense is over,
Angelo’s advisor invites Angelo
and his little family to lunch:

“You two must be very proud of Angelo”

“Oh, yes, we are.”

“Angelo’s told me all about you two,
and what you do for a living.”

“Did he really?”

“Yes he did.”

Sally looks at Angelo,
and Angelo shakes his head
in agreement.

“Doing that
must have been a hard life
for both of you.
Many people cannot survive
that kind of life.

You are both
to be commended
for what you did.

Angelo is a fine young man,
and a very skilled mathematician.”

“Yeah, thanks professor,
he’s a great kid,
and always has been.”

“Thanks mom,
thanks dad.”

Bobby

Thanks dear Ida,

Yes, he's a math pro. He's also a sweet kid. Right now he's on his honeymoon.

Thanks dear Linda,

Yes, Angelo is also a very sweet guy, and always was.  He's a very gentle person, and so is his wife.  They will do fine with each other.  She's a beautiful lady from Iran, and he's one handsome guy.

Love Felix

Thanks Steve,

Yes, Angelo is a real math whiz, and so is his wife.  They are both math professors.

My son became a JAG lawyer in the Marine Corp last year and was just promoted to Captain last week. I know the feeling, Bobby, of filling the lungs with the air of righteous pride! This is a very warming story, and it is a monument to overcoming adversity and rising to great heights. Hats off to Angelo, and to Felix and Sally!

Thanks Art,

JAG lawyers are great, and so are Captains in the Marine Corp.  Good on your son.

Felix does not seem to realize that he has come as far from his own beginnings as has Angelo.  I am proud of both of them.  Love, Joyce

Bobby, this sounds very much like my story. Angelo did get his PhD. However I didn’t get any … Enjoyed.

I understand that this was a wonderful gratification for the three of you. It shows that where there is enthusiasm there is success.  I love math too and often said if I could go back (or maybe in another life!) I would choose that direction ...
Congratulations to Angelo and best wishes for his professional achievements.
I also appreciate the obviously loving relationship between you and your son, which is a thing that seems so hard to accomplish.
Love,
Margherita

Thanks Prasad,

So you're a math person too.  Nice dancing tiger.  Keep working on both the math and the tigers.
