She was lemon drop
With nothing on the rim
Nothing but her beautiful fingers
Speaking in silence
Hot breeze and passing cars
And brown eyes
Straight through me

I imagined white, picket fences
End of day kisses
Her smile said, "no"
And she would know
I could be addicted
We all are, she smiled
Mine was but a habit
I could put down

Appetizers were stay
Of execution, and I,
Blissfully guilty, reckoned
The sinking sun gathers more
Than just the darkness
Because I remember too much
And forget, conveniently,
All the reasons why

She was lemon drop
And I was full of reasons
Her auburn hair should fall
Around something more
Than emptiness

I left a good tip, and
More than I can remember
Conveniently

A lovely vignette...

with colorful lemons.

A summer reprieve...
