There is no purple sky
without people who look at it
There is no heavy rain
without the skin which it wets,

There is no blind solstice
without the rotation of the earth
and the disturbing power
of the calculations and of dawns

There is no simple truth
without the pillow where we sleep,
without the ear which listens to it,
At last the clear evidence of the world
belongs only in happy people.

Yo Yann,

Your English is coming right along.  Since I'm a rather grim realist, I don't believe any of this.

The poem is well written.

The clarity of the evidence of the world is accessible only to those who are happy . . . What a novel concept, and I like it!. I think you might mean that those simple truths—the pillow, the listening ear (the breath, the heartbeat) are only appreciated when one is not in a state of despair, for despair blots out the souls access to simple beauty. These are just my impressions, yann but, above all, I enjoyed the reading of the poem.

As always, thanks for sharing.

Art

Hello Art, there is a sense to this poem that is that the mankind and each one of us seek happiness and it is perhaps the real meaning of all that, century after century learning to be happy despite the blackness of the soul...learning to understand the happiness, what it is to be happy and teach it should be the philosophic adventure of next centuries...I could tell a lot about it but it would make become serious and I am a serious guy....

There are things in life that we must endure which
are all but unendurable, and yet I feel there is a great goodness.
Why, when there could have been nothing, is there something?  This
is a great mystery.  How, when there could have been nothing, does it
happen that there is love, kindness, beauty?

I guess you can either dwell on the good or the bad and you have to ask yourself, which is better for my personel welfare? I am with you, yann. We can spend our short time being miserable. To what end?

Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if everyone could be happy, for after health

happiness is the most imprtant thing known to the human race. Interesting post Yann.

Yann, I don't know if you are French, or simply in France, but either way, I love the way you think and I believe that even if you aren't French, then you have, nevertheless, been deeply influenced by the philosophising of the French.  I find your poetry very interesting.

Thank you Jane, there are so good or bad things mixed on this earth, that I think we have to choose our own philosophy to live....

Thanks for your reply to my reply.  PrĂ©vert is one of my very favourite French poets.  Your poetry reminds me very much of his work - and that is a huuuuuuuge compliment.  I look out for your work when I come into Pip.

Dear Yann, this is one of my favorites of yours. You convey your philosophical view beautifully. Things exist because we observe them. I think happiness is a gift bestowed on us by our awareness of life's wondrous facets.

Just beautiful!

Love,
Margherita
