Sailing

The water waits,
smooth as pure, clear glass-
a shade perhaps more blue than green-
It casts a mirror to mysteries below.
While high in the cloudless sky,
sheer glorious upon it's center stage,
the sun grows savage
at its duty.
Casting down summer heat,
as endless rain
on thirst-quenched desert.

The sails pull strong and sturdy,
like dock-man straining
to their task.
Their canvas sheets billow out.
Hurried by impatient winds
they blossom full and wide.
The green and yellow canvases
cast a hint of carnival colors,
their silhouette in stark relief
to the pure periwinkle sky.
And the pontoons glide through the waters.
Shafts of towering ivory white,
like great horned tusks
of ancient beasts,
moving side by side,
swiftly slicing the still waters.

A fine day for sailing
the mast man, sure and true.
His hands, taunt upon
the salt-stained ropes,
tell the tale of the how
and the why
of this journey into
vast blue-green waters
that stretch beyond the bay.
At last the bay
falls out of sight.
Nothing is about but sea.
We tie down the festive sails
and balance on waveless waters.
The seas cradle our tiny craft,
in the arms
of the big blue deep.

All around a seeming eternity.
The sky, a shimmering hue,
greets its brother's
own bright waters
and then the faraway point
where sky meets sea
looks to circle the very world,
touching one another beyond sight.

Such sights set minds considering
the timing and the moment
of each journey past.
Each one a chance invitation
to linger in wonder,
to capture this knowing
of life's enormity,
and our own small place
there.

Trying to be more descriptive. So here is another new style

Enjoyed your new style very much, Sharyn.
I have never been sailing but it sounds wonderful.

Dear Sharyn,

This sounds like fun.  The poem is very descriptive.

A sweeping panorama of land, sea, and sky, and all the beauty they impart to the eye, and emote in the heart of imagination! This is superb narration without an excess of adjectives (which old Ezra Pound always frowned upon!).

Best wishes,

Art

The descriptive style suits you well shyvl. I especially loved how you described the sky, land, and sea with such harmony.

To each of you, I would like to express my appreciation that you took the time to read my poem(it was rather long) and then gave of yourself in warm supportive comments. I value your kind words.  Thanks again

Enjoyed reading and sailing along with you, dear Sharyn. A most beautiful write, enriched with some deep thoughts born upon deep waters.

Love,
