Years of memories sobbed down my face.
the unmistakable wet leather in working scent
that filled his garage….
expecting the tumble of brass,
my ears heard it anyway….
I closed my eyes
to try and hold it back
and I,
reeling in the knowledge
that all these tools, all these books, patterns
pieces of his knowing
his talent
his patience
and love
would never again be
as great as they were
when wielded
now they were simply
things
and the leather that lays
unfinished
will never be the work of art
he intended it to be
and my imagination
was never as good
as something he made.

Healing will come with time, and that familiar smell will yours to recall now and forever.  I hope it makes you smile one day soon, instead of causing you tears.  I am so sorry for your loss.

SEA,

This takes me back to the old leather working factories in Wilmington, Del.  That was hard work.  I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

My best to you, Susan, at this sad time.  I do know that we pay the departed a great honour by remembering them and soon those memories will bring more comfort than pain for you.  It does, however, take a bit of time before we are ready to welcome that comfort but perhaps that's how it's meant to be.  Sincere condolences.

Dear Susan, this is a beautiful touching write from your heart. You will silently continue to dialogue with your dear Father and feel his presence around and within you.

Love and healing hugs.

I felt ~ and understood ~ every blessed word. I too have lost my father and your thoughts and feelings are so similar to my own.

I am somewhat teary-eyed and choked up at the moment.

An exceptionally moving spill from your grieving

Wrapping my healing arms around you with love, understanding, and compassion.

What a beautifully tender personal portrait of your father. You must have had an especially wonderful father-daughter relationship, for your words evoke understanding, respect, as well as great depth of love. I am so sorry for your loss, but happy that you had such relationship memories to savor. Thank you for sharing, Sue.

Reading you is automatic with me.  I 'sea' your name and...well, it just opens up for me to read. You already know that though...

Loved this too...

Please do not misunderstand me.  I feel the pain of your grief.  I, too, have known loss, but the part that you may have misunderstood if I hadn't asked you not to, is that I envy your grief at the loss of a parent.  I wish I could have felt grief when my mother died and then years later, when my father died.  This is a beautiful tribute to your father.  I am sorry that you lost him, but glad that he was a father to you and that he was worthy of your grief.
